The alarm blared, and there was a great commotion. The access doors were still open and gas was leaking into the corridors. The security force would have to try to stop the rebels while combating the effects of an immobilizing nerve agent. Unlikely, the group thought.

Thunderstrike led the company to the grate that he had been returned through and blew a gas canister in the guard's face. There was some pushing and falling around, but eventually everyone was able to get out safely.

"What do we do now -- ow!" Someone had tread on heavylee's foot.

"Ooh, sorry," said argo. "We need to find their control room, or command center, something."

"I think the signs up there should help us," Xception said, indicating the directional guides on the walls. "Let's go."

They ran off and searched, and seemed to be on the right track, but it was not long before they encountered enemies. It was no matter; thunderstrike and LifeVirus had fashioned their own chained flails using the chains from the storage room and pieces of metal bar from the office desks. The forces were quickly disarmed and thrown to the ground, and the company took the liberty of picking up their guns and other items that could be of use. They pressed on with ease, and soon it seemed like they had lost their pursuers.

As they traveled through the corridors, the strange office-building like complex seemed more familiar to Tokzic. Only when he saw the photograph of the FFR admins on the wall did he remember what happened.

"Hey," he called. "I know this place. That computer room over there...that's where me and the guys from Rapture tested the 3rd Style Beta. And that's the video terminal..."

It took a while for it to sink in, but the shock was enough so that everyone halted.

"No," said heavylee. "You're not saying...it can't be."

"It is," Tokzic responded. "FFR Headquarters."

The silence was broken by a sudden rush of footsteps. The security forces were crowding behind them. The group beat them to the draw, but whatever the guns were shooting didn't affect them much. At best they were able to knock them down, but they got rught back up. Then they realized that this was not the same attire that the earlier guards wore...

"They're armored!" shouted thunderstrike over the din. "We need to get out of here!" They retreated to a hallway that ended in a locked door. "I took a passkey," Tokzic commanded. "Cover me while I open the door."

There wasn't much need for cover, since he had the door open in seconds. However each person had to cover the people who were going through the door, and the task became harder with time. Soon Xception was facing them alone, and they were gaining on him. "Hurry up!" Makilaz shouted to him. "Get in!" But it was too late. One of the soldiers had fired a blast at Xception, and both of them saw it streak across the hallway and into the barrel of Xecption's gun.

The explosion threw Xception fiercely against the door, slamming it shut. Makilaz saw a fragment of metal punch through the locking mechanism on the door. There was shouting behind the door, then pounding, then silence.
Makilaz simply stood there and stared blankly, trying to comprehend what had happened. It seemed like hours.

"We need -- we need to keep going." LifeVirus's voice was grave.

Makilaz heard the voice as if it were traveling across an arctic waste. "But--but Xception..."

"We can't do anything to help him now." argo said. "They'll probably have that door open soon too."

Everyone understood and trudged on. They knew Xception was probably dead, and it was a severe loss to them, but they couldn't be broken. Not now. They needed to keep together before they could afford to fall apart.

Their lives depended on it.
