The subscriber news comment background color was implemented when the layout switched, just the color itself was not.

why are you guys comparing this you youtube? Youtube was not the first to use a user voting system. In fact, I don't like the way they even implemented it.

To be completely honest.. I don't see how this helps anything. People are being extremely rude with the voting. It's allowing for the majority to gang up on anyone with a differing opinion (as this thread is showing clearly). Then it completely hides their post, pretty much making this a one-sided comment thread. If this is to deter spam, it's doing a crappy job of it IMO.

The entire point of this, Summerschool, is not to fight spam, but a way to encourage good posting. Single word comments are useless. if you post something good and enough people like it, you get voted up.
Sure there is mob mentality, that's normal. If this was such a bad idea, then why do all the other popular sites use it? Or is it because Myspace doesn't use it. Regardless, you will see that in time, it will pay off.

Truthfully, I like how this system promotes animation upon clicking something. I hope the rest of the site turns out like it should. I would definitely not mind clicking something and then seeing some animation in response. This site deserves the 1337 it already is.
