Odds are, files with offbeat 64ths to random sounds won't be synced well enough to get in. It's not confined to some limited area like that, though. You just have to do something original.

I think one of the biggest problems with sims today, besides the same thing being done over and over, is the fact that most of the music blows... nobody wants to play stepmania to sucky music. Almost 50% of all the simfiles out there are probably DJ Sharpnel, and I ask you who the hell listens to DJ Sharpnel in their free time. "All right time to drive to work, can't forget my DJ Sharpnel cd though. I love his music." To be honest there's only a handful of songs on stepmania that I truly like and would listen to in winamp while I play WoW or something. All the rest is crap.

            Haha, that's me!

I grab my CD's of DJ Sharpnel when I drive places XD
I listen to DJ Sharpnel when I play MMORPG's.

But that's what makes people different, they prefer different things.
I prefer Sharpnel, I love it to death.
You prefer (Insert whatever it is you prefer here).

            On-topic:
I think I have a song to step for this that doesn't change BPM so randomly :>

ok screw the candypop. It was just a cheap copy of Manchurian Candy rofl

do you accept a one minute long piano-song with bpm changes all over the place though

Macgravel: Step some old school VGM. Most of the songs are constant and might become good simfiles depending on your skill.

Agreed, however I personally like some of DJ Sharpnel's stuff (Airwave comes to mind), while some of his other songs really suck.
The only songs I play that I don't like are really hard songs (reality lol).
Love Fighter, which is a decent song, but not one I would listen to alone, is now one of my favorite files because of its arrow awesomeness. So how one personally likes the song is about half the enjoyment in playing SM.
But about 1/10 of the stepfiles I have are actually worth listening to, so this seriously needs more attention.

(bcuz srsly that would be a pretty e z way to be original)

(i think ill try recording some random improv **** on piano and stepping to it)

Probably lots of people, but keep in mind that it's not very easy to make music that will make a good simfile.

                      EDIT: Remember Porco Dio? B)

                          Re: R^n: Shifting Paradigms

I think that while an originality factor must be in place, there should also be a fun factor.
Someone might come up with a completely original concept for a sim, but have it be not very fun and a pain to play *cough*IstanbulCafé*cough*. Although it is very rare that that happens.

I was thinking that maybe Love Fighter would get in because that file is so ****ing fun to play IMO (more than We Met Dat Night).

I wouldn't mind if all the music is electronic, as long as it's somewhat decent (really good music is a definite plus). If the whole pack is just filled with files that are fun to play, I might as well just delete 90% of my songs once this pack comes out.
Just be careful you don't set the standard too high, or you won't get anything at all.

PS: I just realized that this was probably a completely poinless rant that will lead to more posting thus keeping this topic bumped. Okay not completely pointless. Ahhhh ADD!

Tennis will be over soon, so I'll finally have time to work on this ****. Also, finals are June 5-9 for me.

One hour per minute of a song is really fast.

I want people to do their absolute best on a song. TL333S was good, but he could've made it even better.
