Game Recording & Playback
Last night I hinted at a new major feature that will be hitting FFR. We are still putting the final touches on the feature but I figured you guys deserved to know what we are up to.
As the title says, you will be able to record your games and play them back. As a matter of fact, you will be able to let anyone view a level you just played by simply linking them to it or letting them click on it within your profile.
How many games will you be able to record and save? Right now we are planning on unlimited. You won’t need to download anything or configure something special. You will simply be able to save your game after you are done and everything is stored in the database automatically.
We have to make absolutely sure that this feature works before we release it. So we are looking at 1 day.. maybe 2.. maybe 3 at most until we are able to wrap it up. It all depends on how the bug hunting goes between Xelius, myself and the rest of team (including subscribers).

Maybe what they should do is not count ones that the admins can be sure were done with a malicious and not count files over a certain age unless you checked it or w/e.

omg just when i canceled my subscription because i dont play much anymore this happens
wouldnt this like take up a lot of memory on the database or something? im not that great with computers but imagine all these ffr users saving game plays. some people whore this game daily

Mitch, the subscribers are going to test out the beta before it is released to the public. [Subscribers will help find bugs/glitches] So that when it is released there will be few if any.

So will this basically just record where and when you get your goods, avs, misses, and boos? So when you were to click on a score on a song’s stats, you could watch a playback of the actual score? It doesn’t sound like it would take up too much memory.

the combination with the lvl rank list is hot..if it would save your best run automatically so you can go to your lvlrank.php and click on a song to open up that best run recorded

tera i think its possible flash can access your webcam and there are video sharing/upload sites where you can record yourself live
if the webcam video would start recording at the moment the song is 100% loaded/starts so a synchronized output result can be obtained and some kind of dual side by side video and flash display can be implemented. too wild?

This will be great. This should not only be put for suscribers, because what if someone asks for a video to show that you are a fair player and you don’t have a video…. It’ll be better. People will also be bursting with videos on their scores.

1:Will it display current FFR rank or will it display rank you had when you got that particular score?
2:Hopefully it doesn’t count as a game played when you play back.
3:Make it a stand-alone Downloadable file! That would kick HEAPS of ass! Imagine being able to DL your best recording and viewing it with no other software needed. Or at least Windows Media Player and QuickTime.

I hope you guys allow us to save the replays as video files on our computers. That would allow people to copy them to their computers then get rid of them, possibly helping stress on the servers, and allowing people to put them up on youtube and the likes.

you guys will need some true HD space for that kind of storage think if 20000 regular users saved 20 videos a day that would be 400000 vids @ a minimum of 5 megs a piece would be a crap load of space needed

One of the best FFR features yet, I hate having to try and sync sound with video. Usually I have to record the video and then the sound separate to get it right. Also, the quality of screen recorders suck. Hooray Synth!

So long as all these people talking about it being subscribers only. Ok. I’m not even a subscriber and I know this fully well: ALL things start out, ONLY TEMPORARILY as subscriber’s only. The people who pay for a subscribers account gain access early so they can test the new feature before the masses get to it. This allows for enough people to play it and find the bugs, without a crapload of complaints about this not working, that not working and whatever. Eventually, all FFR releases are for EVERYONE and will be usable by EVERYONE. now stop asking if a feature *not just the video recording, which is awesome, if I may* will be subscribers only. It’s a waste of your typing.
