TWG XXVII: Art Causes Harm to the Body (Really)

I'm posting on this account because I have Kilgamayan logged in elsewhere, setting up a barrage of PMs. I'll provide an AIM list in an edit after the PMs are sent, I just wanted to get this out ASAP.

    ---

Miss Akira Miyata of Peach Moon High School, Class 1-D, was on her way to another day of education, and was looking forward to it with about as much enthusiasm as she normally did. Very little. Already with a slightly gloomy atmosphere about her, she blankly walked up to the school doors and entered. A familiar figure awaited her as soon as she stepped inside.

"Ah, Miyata. I was hoping to see you," said Rebecca Miyamoto, the 11-year-old MIT graduate who taught over in Class 1-C. "We have a problem, and we need your help."

"W-wait, why do you need me? I'm not really useful for much of anything..."

"Actually, that's partly why we need you. Now come with me."

The gloomy atmosphere now lifted, a curious Akira followed Becky down the corridors of the school and into her lab. Mesousa was already there, along with Professor Igarashi and Professor Saotome, the 1-A and 1-B teachers.

"Okay, Miyata, here's what's going on. The Peach Moon Virus has returned, and with a vengeance, it seems. Jijii has already been infected, so he has been taken to the quarantine area from the last time we got hit with this."

"Oh no! What are we going to do? Will the cure we made with the rabbit's help last time work this time?"

"We think so, but we're not sure. This strain is even more mysterious than the last," Saotome said. "Our scientists have had no end of trouble researching any and all present new qualities, Professor Miyamoto included."

"The reason we need you is because the virus does share some similarities with the previous strain," Becky continued. "It still shares the same weakness it did last time. You and Mesousa are the only two we have at this school that are sufficiently uninteresting sentient beings to counteract the virus' effect."

Akira's sullen mood returned at this comment. She hung her head and whimpered a little.

"However, the virus seems to be much more powerful this time than last. So we're keeping the two of you in here until we've isolated the initial carriers. The last thing we need if for you to be overexposed to it and it developing an immunity to you."

Becky noticed that Akira's mood did not improve. Feeling bad for her, she tried to cheer her up.

"So how about that, Miyata? Right now, you're the most important student in this entire school, and key to the survival of everyone in it!"

Akira sniffed and then brightened up. "Well, I-I guess that's good...all right, I'm with you! What do you want me to do?"

Saotome spoke up again. "Well, we don't really need you to do anything. Really, we only need you to not get infected. So, basically, you're going to spend the whole day here in Professor Miyamoto's lab. You're free to do whatever you want just as long as you don't break anything. You pretty much have the school day off."

"All right, I think it's time we informed the rest of the school. I think 1-D is aware that Jijii isn't around, but I doubt anyone in 1-D or anyone else knows why. Professor Igarashi, can you round up all the students for us in the assembly hall so we can fill them in?"

Becky turned to Igarashi as she spoke, and found Igarashi passed drunk out on the table, mumbling incoherently. Becky slapped her forehead.

"Agh, never mind. I guess I'll do it. Professor Saotome, do you mind checking in with the quarantine center to see if Jijii's condintion is improved or if they've made progress in research?"

    "Not at all. Let's go!"

The door closed behind them. Akira turned around to look at Becky's lab. She was enthralled by all the weird, interesting stuff in it. She had only been in this office twice before, and neither time did she have a chance to really get a good look at it. This place was amazing!

"Hmm, if I'm going to be here all day, I better do something with my lunch so it stays cold. Ah, this will do!"

Akira started walking toward Becky's minifridge when she tripped and fell. Her gloomy mood and whimpering resurfaced.

Re: TWG XXVII: Art Causes Harm to the Body (Really) (Night 1)

Becky made her way to the auditorium. Upon her arrival, she found that students from all four classes were already there, including all five of the annoying ones from her class. She noted that there weren't that many students there, but all who showed up were stand-out, noticable ones, ones she knew the names of. How peculiar. Shaking it off as just another quirk of this wacky-ass school, she began her planned "presentation".

"Okay, folks, here's what's going on. The Peach Moon Virus has resurfaced, and it's worse than before."

Immediately Akane and Nanjou were at each other's throats. "I bet it's your fault again! You and those smelly, dirty animals!" "Shut up, you peasant! All of my animals are quite clean! It's probably you and your countless costumes that you haven't washed in ages!"

As other discussion rippled through the gathered students, Becky noticed the word "Peach" form on the forehead of one of the kids. She strained to see who it was and recognized them almost instantly.

        "Himeko!"

Everyone turned to look at the girl in question, and those around her recoiled at the site of her head. Himeko, clueless as ever as to what was going on, looked around. "Huh? What's going on?"

Yuzuko pointed at her. "You've got the virus!"

"What? Oh no! I am omega infected!"

"Guess idiots do get sick," Rei said. "Who invented that saying, anyway? This is the second time it's been wrong."

"Drat! All right, get her out of here and into the quarantine center." Becky motioned a couple of scientists over. They dragged Himeko off, her pitiful "Mahoooooooooooo~" echoing down the halls.

At that point, Becky's cell phone rang. "Hello? Oh good, I was hoping to hear from you. We've got Himeko on the way, she's been infected...what? Really? Are they sure? Oy, this isn't good. All right, I'll do what I can here. Keep me posted." She hung up.

"That was Professor Saotome. He says that the researchers have discovered that this virus didn't just spring up out of nowhere. It has been spread around intentionally."

"How could they possibly have determined that?" Behoimi asked.

"Look, does anything ever make sense at this school? Don't concern yourself with how they did it, worry about the fact that we've got students running around getting other students sick on purpose. They're working on analysis of how to counteract this strain. Right now Miyata and Mesousa are stored away from the rest of you, since they're going to be instrumental in the cure for this thing. The rest of you are to stay here. Please do not leave this room and/or go looking for them for any reason, or we may be forced to implement certain...countermeasures to stop you."

"So what should we do in the meantime? I don't want to waste my day in here doing nothing. I have better things I could be doing," Tsurugi said.

"Ah, yes. Well, I figure that we might as well help the researchers out and try to isolate the sources of this strain. So, uh, I don't know, pick someone who looks like they might be responsible."

Re: TWG XXVII: Art Causes Harm to the Body (Really) (Night 1)

Just briefly, something to consider: does the wolfsbane come out right away?

advantage: likely 2 person alliance with a guaranteed invincible front(wo)man and the seer... possible 3 person alliance if the seer seered a human (and is confident that person isn't the master, etc). And that would be just day 1.

disadvantage: obviously, the wolves would then know who not to attack, which would be a huge factor late in the game.

Best case scenario the wolves attack the wolfsbane (at which point they might as well come out) and we go from there... it's just a question of whether we want an alliance with a public frontman or a (less effective?) one in the background being formed by the seer, and how soon.

on the wolfing: seems half random half calculated. meaning that iggy did show himself to be helpful last game... but not night 1 wolfable helpful.

Re: TWG XXVII: Art Causes Harm to the Body (Really) (Night 1)

OK... I talked this over with a few people pre-game (Kilga included), and the conclusion is that the wolfsbane SHOULD come public ASAP so that (s)he can alliance up with the seer.

The UPSIDE to this is we have a confirmed human who can't ever be killed and a voice for the seer/alliance.

The DOWNSIDE is that everyone else is now cattle. Aka... 100% guarenteed to not be a save when led to nightly slaughter.

Now, on night 1, the odds of the wolves picking the wolfsbane to kill is 9% (1/11). Odds do get better over time AND we do get and extra day with a save... but the extra alliance mate and the knowledge of a confirmed human and the voice of the seer seem to outweigh this. It was under the assumption that the wolfsbane would come out on day 1 that Kilga made there be only 14 players instead of 16 (he feels that the ability to have only 4 wrong kills vs 5 is balanced by the wolfsbane. i disagree... but we digress).

So, with that all said... it would seem that it is in our best interest to have the wolfsbane come forward publically.

And in case you didn't read all that I said above carefully... we only have FOUR wrong lynches before we lose, not FIVE. So even day 1 is crucial to victory. If things went as well as possible we should have a 3-person alliance to balance the wolves OR a 2-person alliance and 1 known wolf. In either case the human alliance == the wolf alliance.

Now... I'm going back to watch the 2nd half of the nova v uconn game. I'll be back 4-4:30 to have more in depth discussion of all this with you guys over AIM.

I agree with talisman and tass(this game >_>). An alliance this early in the game is crucial, especially since we are very shorthanded this game with humans vs. wolves.

                  Go go go.

For the record: I didn't read the story and never will. Sorry Kilga. =P

Also for the record: I didn't vote for this game so I can't remember what's different. Same as usual but the guardian is replaced by the wolfsbane, right?

And uh, as for the bane coming out, I dunno. We really could use the extra day if they attack the wolfsbane, but hmmmm....I dunno. I guess it's out of my control by now anyway. Just uh, if there is a public alliance, make sure you don't look too connected with each other. We don't need the seer getting killed super early in this game, and you know if there is a public alliance then every kill the wolves make will be based on who they think is seer, and that'll mostly be based on who acts along with the bane.

Random question (mostly inspired by what happened last game): If it comes down to 1 wolf and the wolfsbane on the final day, what happens? Normally I think if wolves >= humans they should win, but in this special case I would think the wolfsbane should win. I figured I'd ask and get it cleared up just in case way ahead of time.
So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.

So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.

Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O

Won't happen EB. When there are 3 people left, it's human bane wolf. The wolf will get voted, not the human obviously.

Even though it's early to be discussing suspicions, it's already been stated that we have only 4 wrong incorrect votes. Treat this day like any other. Looking at the kill, I'm going to go back to last game and see who said anything positive about Iggy's activity, and who was actually in the game.

I said some things about Iggy being smart last game, but I definately would not wolf him night 1 if was a wolf. Which, for the record, I am not. He just doesn't seem to be good enough to warrant a night one kill. My bet is that it was a confusion kill. The only thing that worries me is that it was someone new. The wolves had an equal shot at all of the vets this game and went for Iggy. That seems rather off.

I strongly agree with Tass about having an invincible "voice of the seer." While the best scenario would be for the Wolfsbane to be attacked on the first night with a successful read on a wolf by the seer, allowing an 11 on 2 by the end of day one, that scenario has already passed (as well as the relevance of my even bring it up). Thus said, I have thought of a couple of scenarios:

                            1) The above, a day late. The wolves would target the Wolfsbane, and the seer would spot a wolf. An extra day would be added, and the Wolfsbane and the seer could bring out and lynch the wolf.

ANALYSIS: Really bad. It would be putting too much up to chance, with likely lynching and wolfing of humans. Mostly put out to not overlook anything.

                            2) The smart one, the alliance from day one. While the extra day would not be added, as Tass said, the other benefits would outweigh it. Voice of the seer, blah, blah, blah.

ANALYSIS: Makes sense, and should most likely be executed. The only problem is multiple people trying to convince the Wolfsbane that they're the seer. With no tangible proof either way, a wolf could lead the Wolfsbane into announcing a human target. The Wolfsbane is the most important role in this game, and thus must take the most care in who to trust, or else they could wipe out all the humans without a single successful lynch.

                            3) The case based off of the above analysis. If the Wolfsbane brings him/herself out, and multiple people come to him/her as the seer, the Wolfsbane may act alone, denying any outside assistance.

ANALYSIS: Pretty much brings it to a normal TWG without a guardian, putting the humans at a disadvantage. Having one confirmed, invincible human doesn't help much if 1) there's no seer helping to voice for, and 2) if the Wolfsbane isn't a solid player, or doesn't make the best decisions.

In short, the new best scenario is to have a Wolfsbane that can see through a fake seer, or at least make good decisions by themselves. As in the last game, Iggy was killed early, which might be indicative of some sort of fear of him, possibly from how much progress he was making last time.

I don't mind at all. Even when the game degenerates into insane amount of inactivity, I still put forth my best effort into the story. I feel like it's my durty as the host to do so. Plus it gives me an excuse to indulge my favorite character whenever I want to however I want to. >_>

Then again, maybe I'm just masochistic. Given this is the 6th time I've hosted, that's not at all out of the realm of possibility. <_<
