I'd personally get a Wii, not only is it far cheaper than the PS3, the games on the Wii are more innovative and a lot of fun.

Well, I'm glad we got that out of the way.

Why is this important? The PS2 hardware is prone to failure. Nobody knows how long their PS2 will hold up, and if you ever want to play your games ever again, you will either have to try to fix it or buy a new one.

If your PS3 has backward compatibility, you won't have to worry about this.

Also, if we're writing this thing, it should be objective, but I don't see why opinions shouldn't matter. It's a buying guide. It should generally list positives.

It'll be hard for me to list negatives about a console I have no negative feelings about. The only annoyances I've had are with the games themselves, not the console.

          Right and wrong.

The PS3 has two versions: 60 gig and 80 gig.
The 80 gig does not have built-in PS2 hardware; the 60 gig does.
The backwards capability depends on what version you buy.
And, Squeek, you have to realize that not all the people even had PS2's before they considered buying the PS3. So they may or may not care.

That post is incredibly old. And even then, it's STILL accurate!

The PS3 has FIVE versions. Not two. Sony continuously discontinues old models and brings out new models. There are two on the market now: the 40 and the 80. The 40GB version has no PS2 back compat. The 80GB has software emulation. It's getting discontinued.

I read this many times, and I still find it funny:

In response, Penny Arcade's Gabe and Tycho demanded a reward of $13,200 after finding six PS3s in stores near their home town.
I demand $2,400 for finding 2 PS3s at my local store last week, though this is really old.

I guess you hate Apple, Squeek, because that's the same way they're marketing the iPod. Planned obsolescence

That's the one thing about Apple I hate the most, yeah.

Any company that willingly makes its previous products obsolete OVER AND OVER AGAIN. It's just horrible business practice.

Yes, I realize Nintendo has a DS and a DS Lite, but there was a legitimate upgrade and it was only a few months into the life of the original DS. And it was the only upgrade.

Nothing like the iPod, which has like ten billion different versions.

I too think it is a crappy marketing strategy.

Sadly, yeah. However, does Apple have anything to do with this thread?

                        PS: Apple sucks.

                          Yes.

They employ a marketing plan similar to Sony. I was just conversing with Squeek about how much it sucks as a general strategy, because the customers tend to lose.

So sorry to have wasted your time. I will reimburse you when I get the chance.
