How does price bother you? $399 is a very reasonable deal.

The $399 console has zero backward compatibility.

It can only play PS3 games.

Why is this important? The PS2 hardware is prone to failure. Nobody knows how long their PS2 will hold up, and if you ever want to play your games ever again, you will either have to try to fix it or buy a new one.

If your PS3 has backward compatibility, you won't have to worry about this.

Also, if we're writing this thing, it should be objective, but I don't see why opinions shouldn't matter. It's a buying guide. It should generally list positives.

It'll be hard for me to list negatives about a console I have no negative feelings about. The only annoyances I've had are with the games themselves, not the console.

emm not really like some have been saying the ps3 does have great games, it depends of the exclusives you like (for example i'm a hardcore final fantasy fan)

Same here. Final Fantasy is my favorite game series and the PS3 was a "have-to-get" especially for the future releases. XD

True, the longest my ps2's have lasted was 2 years :S and the one i currently have freezes and rarely reads disks anymore

but there really isn't too many games for the ps3 that are really that good to make me go out and buy one and i would rather get a wii because that way i can atleast get some exercise while gaming :P

Yeah, if I were to get a PS3, I would have to get the best one which costs 600$. That is more than what I paid for my Xbox 360 and Rock Band bundle COMBINED. And it comes with no games as far as I know, while the 360 bundle I got came with 2 full games.

And as far as "$399 is a very reasonable deal," the Wii has many more popular unique games and only costs 250$. And Wii games are cheaper too. And totally backward compatible with Gamecube. And online releases of games of the past for "simulated" further "backward compatibility" (Honestly, I wish they had a means of downloading the VC versions of games we already own...).

No one is telling you to buy a PS3 Afro. If you want a Wii, then go ahead. I'm just saying that unless more quality titles come out that aren't made by Nintendo themselves and fully utilizes the Wii controller, it's really not a justifiable purchase other than the curiosity factor.

Oh, and by the way, it really shouldn't count if Nintendo doesn't make the game. Most of the time, they're just a publisher.

No. Definitely ****ing no. If there is one thing the Wii needs is games that SPECIFICALLY DO NOT use the features. It works wonderfully for a lot of games, but in my experience, the use of accelerometer controls often work less effectively than button press movements would. Take Galaxy for example: I can see why you guys like it, but to say that shaking the remote works BETTER than pressing a button like was used in previous titles is just flat out wrong. I think Twilight Princess also suffered from something like this, but I didn't get very far in it and I honestly can't recall to what degree they overused accelerometer controls, if they in fact did at all.

Really, I want to see games released that allow gamecube or classic controller use. They got the hint that fighters won't work well with motion controls and have, of course, worked Brawl into allowing different control schemes. Obviously, multiple control systems would never work for games like WarioWare or Trauma Center, but for 3rd person action/platformers and fighters, there is no reason to force the player to shake the remote during normal gameplay. Certain modes and things can obviously make fair use of features (such as Link's bow in TP), but that doesn't mean it should be constantly present. I guess what I'm asking for here is subtlety.

And man, come on. Show me a single PS3 game that makes full use of the sixaxis system, while effectively bringing it in a way that feels instantly natural.

it's really not a justifiable purchase other than the curiosity factor.

Ok, I'm tired of developers making multiplayer party games. Seriously. Just stop. We already have WarioWare and Mario Party 8. Anyone who wants more than that (and Wii Sports) is an idiot. STOP MAKING THESE GAMES.

In case you haven't noticed, my Wii game collection has one party game. WarioWare. It's also the one I've played the least. 3 hours of fun gaming that is meaningless unless you have friends over. Whoohoo.

So, there's one strike on Ninten--oh wait nevermind. I don't see a press release from Nintendo that says "you are only allowed to make crappy party games for our console kthx". This is the developer's problem. It's annoying, but it sells. Nothing we can do except not buy the game.

I still see no reason to own a PS3. We're up to two games worth having. That's eight games short of my requirement and the console is still $300 too much. Though I also don't see a reason for having a 360 either since I'm a PC gamer, so I'm in the clear for needing a new console until the PS3 comes down to $200-$300 and has at least ten solid games or the 360 decides not to port all of their good games onto the PC.

Also, any number of games which are on both PS3 and Xbox360 that are not available on the PC, such as the Tony Hawk franchise, or for those of you looking for something new, EA's Skate.

Incidentally, these 4 titles I just mentioned are the only ones I am considering or already own for Xbox 360.

Afro, if you get the $600 PS3, you get MotoStorm. My GameStop ran a deal where you got that plus an additional title, but I missed the sale, otherwise I would have gotten Resistance with my PS3 as well.

MotoStorm isn't really great though. Load times are through the roof. Although the dynamic track construction looks pretty, I've only played the game once before moving on to better things.

To tell you all the the truth, I really don't care what you like or what you don't like. I'm still getting the ps3 no matter what regardless of price. I just have much more fun playing Playstation owned games than anything else. I love the MGS series and the FF series and I love the way sony fine tunes their graphics in every one of their consoles with great games that add to the effect. So all in all playstation is the way for me even though it might not be the way for you.
