Seasonal Update 7/1/2023
Today marks the beginning of a new season on FFR, and with it our seasonal updates.
I’m not receiving an e-mail!
We are unfortunately still running into issues with our e-mail system. If you are trying to reset your password or haven’t received an automated FFR e-mail response in any regard, this is why. In the meantime, please stop by #help in the FFR Discord so our moderator team can assist you!
R^3 1.5.3
R^3 1.5.3 is being released for everyone with general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience. You can find the latest downloads and changelog here. Credit goes to Velocity on the bug fixes!
Season 8
Season 8 is now underway! As of midnight today, Season 7 concluded with over 300 participants in the end. Season 7 badges will appear shortly for those that participated.
Updated File Difficulties
As usual, the latest difficulty changes can be found on this spreadsheet. It’s also worth noting that Celsus v2 from last week’s release was changed from a 98 to a 96 shortly after being released.
Ongoing Events
The first round of the 16th Official Tournament started yesterday! This also means that the Derustathon event has concluded. Thank you to everyone that participated! If you won any prizes, you will see those handed out soon.
The weekly song releases over the next seven weeks will be based around the official tournament schedule, so they will be happening on Fridays instead of Saturdays. As a reminder, stay tuned for upcoming round previews each week on Thursday evenings by visiting the FFR Twitch channel.
Until next time!

Songs of the Week and Weekly Update 4/1/2023
Welcome to the first post of April! With another new season comes our bigger seasonal update with difficulty changes, a new leaderboard season, an engine update, and some other big news!
FFR Engine v1.5.0
Starting with a new engine update, a quick rundown of what’s coming to the engine is as follows:
Local File Browser
- Local file browser for playing .sm / .osu / .qua files.
- For those that have used the AF2021 engine, this is the same song selector, but is limited to just FFR style charts. (4K, No Mines or Holds)
- There’s a potential desync issue when using Isolation in combination with this, am looking into it.
Song Selection Tags and display toggles:
- Legacy
- Explicit
- Unranked
Reworked Receptor Code:
- Speed Scaler (0.25x – 5x)
- Unify Animations
- Per Judge Score Color and Toggles
Song Rates:
- No longer requires reloading the song when changed.
As with any engine update, you can find it over on our downloads page, and report any issues over on Github.
Season 7
Season 6 has concluded with just over 250 participants this time around. Season 7 has begun and will last until the end of June. Participation badges for Season 6 will automatically be added soon for those that met the requirements for them.
Difficulty Updates
The difficulty changes this season can be found at the usual location of our contested difficulty spreadsheet. In addition to the list of difficulty updates coming out for the new season, we have something a bit different that is happening with a short list of files. These files in particular have a severe difficulty spike, and as a result are frequently brought up for difficulty discussion, with enduring disagreement about whether the files are overrated, underrated, or should be moved to 0. Specifically, these files have a singular difficulty spike that is 1) ~5 seconds or less in duration and 2) 15 or more points more difficult than everything else in the file. We determined that these files are not quite as extreme as other files currently rated 0, and consequently they will be retaining their numerical ratings but will be unranked. This means they will no longer grant AAA equivalency or figure into global or seasonal skill ratings. You’ll be able to identify them in the new engine update by the gray difficulty number on the song selection screen.
The files affected by this change are:
R/\IN
DubstEpic Symph
Entrance [Deemo Cut]
Etude Op. 10, No. 9 in F minor
For FFR
Runny Mornings (SGX Mix)
Jettison
Judgement Updates
On the judgement side of things we have a change in pace. We’re going to temporarily close submissions once the 16th Official Tournament batch closes at the end of April. We’ve built up quite a backlog, and will need to focus on getting OT files judged once that batch closes. There has not been a date set for when when the next batch will open, but we will provide an update on that as soon as it has been determined. The main factors will be how quickly judging proceeds through the current backlog and the quantity of files in the queue.
New Releases
As for the song releases today, we’ve kept this as a secret for awhile now. It took a bit of wrangling with some labels on our founder’s end, as well as a contract to only dedicate a very, very small percentage of his time towards being present on FFR. It doesn’t make much sense to us either, but it got some results!
To start out this month, all of our releases will be new musicians! These were extremely hard to get permissions for artists you may have heard of. As always, check out their socials below! Thanks, Synthlight!!!

April Fools, SotW and Weekly Update 4/01/2022
Hey everyone, Welcome to the April Fools takeover of FFR’s Front Page! There’s plenty happening today and for the week ahead of us. So bunker down, set your keybinds (or not), and let’s get this under way.
StepCon 2022 has begun, and the competition is underway! Participants over the next two weeks will be pouring their blood, sweat and tears into making some of the very best step-content out there. If you didn’t sign-up, no worries! There will be a Public Judging week Starting on April 15th to decide which versions of the competition’s songs will go in-game. Consider checking the thread for more info!
Season 2 has ended, and Season 3 has begun! Congratulation to those that made it to the top, there should be some shiny new badges for the second season showing up on profiles shortly-ish? Nowaday’s fine of a day as ever to try climbing to the top of the new seasonal rankings! Furthermore, there will be some difficulty changes due to contested difficulties on pre-existing songs, so be prepared for Global Rankings to change a little bit.
For the ‘Poyo’s‘ out there, I’ve got a slapping brand new Kirby song for ya, and also some old dusty songs that no one have ever touched in like, a bajillion years. Can you believe that these old farts actually keep old content around? I think people should get a chance to take these bad boys for a spin. The Kirby music will stay, but you have until the next Songs of the Week before we come repo the rest of these songs back into the SimfileDB Vault, forever.

Countdown to Christmas – 24
It’s December already, I can’t believe this year is almost over. Usually, we just have our FFRmas 12 days before but this year I decided I’m going to release a file a day counting down to Christmas. We will still have FFRmas as we get closer with some spon con events. Regular Friday releases will be paused for this month for this event.
Today we kick off with a Tokyo Machine style holiday song:

FFR Season 1 Leaderboards & Songs of the Week 09/30/21
Fall is in the R^3 air, along with a long awaited and highly requested feature – Seasonal Leaderboards!
Season 1 starts today, and will run for 3 months. You must pass 50 unique songs on 1.0x Rate between October 1st and December 31st to appear on the Season 1 leaderboard.
Your Season 1 skill rating and division will be calculated based on a weighted average of your top 50 scores on score save, so outlier scores won’t skew your level as much, and no manual updating. Lifetime skill rating will continue to use top 15 weighting.
There won’t be any crazy season-exclusive engine mechanics. We wanted to keep Season 1 simple so it wouldn’t be delayed, and take the time to develop more features for Season 2 start. But profile badges will be offered for the division you finished the season in.
We hope you all enjoy this fresh start! -PrawnSkunk, XJ-9, and WirryWoo
