    Ok then. What's more realistic: changing difficulties of many songs as we mass-move them from one difficulty into another OR setting the difficulty bar at what's already defined?

    I'll go with either. But I'm not sure how likely it is for many songs to change difficulty all at once. Just being realistic. I'm fine if those songs are FMOs too, just decide...

      I don't see why we can't use the difficulty bar that was in place for years, from avmiss fix until the site died...

        qqwref is totally right. VCs have gradually been getting harder and harder, but the game itself HASN'T. Just because the players are getting better doesn't mean that the game needs to become falsely harder.

        Plus, it's not like 250 difficulties would be changed, it would be 10-15 max, which is no big deal (just editing some numbers on some table somewhere, 5 minute job once all the difficulties have been decided).

            Yeah, if this is the case, I'm 100% for it. Just be consistent.

            p.s. oh right, is Keep in Mind another would-be FMO?

                Even for statistical analysis there're so many factors other than AAA count like, release date/# of total players(especially secret/purchased/token songs)/who AAA'd (sometimes need to exclude inactive good players when you compare)/PA @ Rank XXX/Bias for token req, difficulties/etc and we should consider them all.

                As for the song stats, BPM, # of (0/1/2/3/4) framers, patterns, TPS, length are also difficulty factors.

                Current borderline reference songs (some difficulty need update though)
                13 = Death Piano
                12 = Reality/FN
                11 = Jeanie and Caroline/Black Key Etude
                10 = Carrousel Paradise/Dot Death (this should be reconsidered)
                9 = CIA Rave/Fantranstic
                8 = RIP/Palindrome
                7 = 4F73R M3
                6 = Contra- distinction
                5 = Alpha Helix/SZR

                ps difficulties won't be determined by voting or something.

                  Gonna weigh in on the ones I remember playing for these.

                  X-Tinction has some tough jump patterns into 32nd rolls that are tough to come in and out of cleanly. FMO.

                  Southern Cross is hard in the sense that songs like Blue Army and Silence are hard: The streams are long and fairly persistent if not terribly fast, with the occasional burst to try to throw you off. Still friendly to people that are good at stream. Keep it VC.

                  Didj PVC has some really odd colored bursts (but it wouldn't be Venetian Snares without them, I suppose) and some of those are pretty hard to read. Leaning towards VC due to the fact that it's not that long.

                  Szerencstelen is almost 5 minutes long and has some rough 32nds that make mid-level players like me going for the FC punch various things...but never the computer itself. Thank you, Tera, for teaching us all that valuable lesson. FMO due to length.

                  BWRP--haha, what a story. Somehow I have 3 clean on this because I fluke PAed most of the bursts. Apart from them, the song isn't terribly hard. VC.

                      Just so you know igotrhythm, Didj PVC is actually by The Flashbulb haha. And yes it does have really icky rhythms, I can definitely see it as a low 11.

                      Another file that came to mind was MAX Forever, though. That file is very abrasive for an 8 - while it is nice in framer gaps (300 bpm on the dot, each 8th note is 3 frames apart) the trills last a very long time and the one handed ones especially require a lot of control to not mess up.

                          This, I've AAA'd like 90 VC's and now I'm stuck on the new 10's. For some reason, I feel like they are not even close to what kind of VC's I AAA'd before. for example, Variations 2 compared to the 90 VC I AAA'd is waaaay harder than those.
                          I have a dig bick.

                            I still fail to see how Variations is easier than J&C and BKE. All J&C consists of are bursts every now and then and BKE consists of a few minijacks and the jumps at the end.

                            The reason why I believe that Variations is FMO worthy is not because of the handstream, but rather because of the awkward patterns at the beginning and the end.

                            Notice all of the current hard VC borderline files. A good handful of them are borderline because of one tricky and evil pattern. For example, Keep In Mind has that awkward speed up near the end. Feld has those tricky jacks every once in a while. Didj PVC has those evil bursts every once in a while. Versatile is cruel with those 32nds. etc.

                            Variations is completely filled with them. Awkward beginning bursts, awkward minijacks, some jumpstream/handstream, and an awkward ending. With all of these qualities meshed into one file, it's why I believe that Variations is an FMO.

                            /twocents

                            EDIT: I feel that there aren't enough difficulties to group files in an accurate manner. Only a suggestion but I think we should consider splitting each difficulty into three groups (easier, medium, or harder) and assign them a new number. We don't have to do it to all of them (like 1's for instance rofl).

                            For example, split all the 6's-13's into those three groups, assign 6 to the easier "6's", 7 to the medium "6's", 8 to the harder "6's", 9 to the easier "7's", etc. Only a suggestion.
