A pound of feathers is heavier because gold is measured in troy weight while the feathers would normally be weighed using the avoirdupois system. These two different systems of measuring mass have different definitions for "pound", causing the pound of feathers to weigh more than the pound of gold.

Okay but that's not the important part to consider when the goat is being revealed to you.

Yes, you'll always have the goat revealed. That much is constant. What isn't constant = whether or not you initially chose the door with the car behind it or if you initially chose a goat door. Based on that action, the resulting distribution of items in the selection space is completely different and the probability changes.

Again, it's easier to consider if you look at it case-by-case. If you initially chose the car-door, then switching away from it means you lose. If you initially chose one of the two goat doors, then the other goat is eliminated and you can safely switch to the car. Two possibilities out of three get you the car.

Just because you always have a goat eliminated from the selection space doesn't mean all situations are isomorphic. The eventualities are conditional on which door you selected and the fact that you know one goat is being eliminated as a choice.

This one was in the movie 21, but, even though they give the solution to it in the movie, it's hard to convince yourself about the results:

"You are on a game show on television. On this game show the idea is to win a car as a prize. The game show host shows you three doors. He says that there is a car behind one of the doors and there are goats behind the other two doors. He asks you to pick a door. You pick a door but the door is not opened. The the game show host opens one of the doors you didn't pick to show a goat (he knows what's behind the doors). Then he says that you have one final chance to change your mind before the doors are opened and you get a car or a goat. So he asks you if you want to change your mind and pick the other unopened door instead. What should you do?"
