FFR Playstyles
Under temporary halt on updates until a few days after 11/17. Feel free to keep posting.
Welcome to the FFR Player's Handstyles List: Updated to post #283 First off, I would like to link you all to the FFR Playing Style and Hand Position Guide by Zageron. It will tell you the basics of the various playstyles on FFR. This thread is only designed to list who plays what style. Both our threads are still in the making process, so if the community would lend us a hand, we would be grateful. Suggest, Criticize, all that. The list is divided into 6 categories based on the number of hands, and the number of fingers. These 6 categories are further divided if there are common names for certain kinds of playstyles (spread, index etc.). If you haven't done so already, SUBMIT PLEASE! Purposes -get the general sense of what styles are used most often -be able to find new users who share the same style you do -discover radical and inventive styles to make FFR challenging and fun -possibly weed out unknowing newbies who are playing double setup -DO NOT START PLAYSTYLE FLAME WARS. Informative statements are welcome, but not aggressive ones. Note: -only submit one (your main) playstyle, unless if you use one as much as the other. -don't use shift/capital letters/symbols. -if you change your playstyle, say so -don't state any "i used to play..." or "i will learn..." -multiple styles will only be admitted if you can get relatively decent scores with both styles OR the style is extremely difficult/uncommon (no "I will get better/I used to".) -keys and fingers always come in ←↓↑→ order -differentiate between numpad and keyboard numbers by saying num2 instead of 2 -for arrow keys, use ←↓↑→ -when submitting finger placement with multiple keys for one finger, state both directions before the assigned finger (↓↑ R index) -when submitting finger placement with multiple fingers for one key, separate the fingers with a slash (LR index) (R index/middle) (L index/R middle) How to submit: Easiest way is to just state a different username on the list that has the same style as you do. If you don't find anyone like that: simple format (for those that belong in a pre-existing subsection) name linked to FFR Profile [key format] subsection name detailed format (for those that have new/uncommon styles) name linked to FFR Profile #hands #fingers [key format] (finger placement) links to details if necessary Examples: dooty 7 - qqwref Xx{Midday}xX - [z x . /] index middle spread Infinity. - 24 [← ↓ ↑ →] (L index, LR index, L index/middle, R ring) details They will appear as listed below. Quote:
Ctrl+F a username/key format to find what you're looking for. * indicates a person with multiple setups. Code:
1 Hand, 2 Fingers List: Total: 3 in conclusion: SPREAD THE WORD! This thread is meaningless without most of the active users on it. Improvements I would like to add the following: How to: -screencut -zoom -enlarge (arrekusu93's script) -set speedmod -set scroll -set modfiers -glossary -keymap (with as much keyboard info as possible) Speedmod -SM cmod -FFR xmod -screencut/window size -alt account difference Modifiers -FFR mods -SM mods -alt account difference Scroll -general scroll -alt account difference The alt account difference will encourage people to try out new settings on alt accounts, and try to record accomplishments with these new settings. User list data -username -handstyle -scroll -speedmod -additional mod What do you think? Yes, this will take an ENORMOUS amount of time to efficiently organize, but I'm willing to do it so long as people submit、and yes, the submitting will become tedious too. If I add all of these things to this thread, I would like the thread title to be changed to something more suitable, and I would like this to be stickied. Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
I think this is right, the instructions for submitting kind of confused me:
Commandersa1 - 2 hands 4 fingers: [Left/Down arrow keys, 8/6 on num pad (L Ring, L Middle, R Middle, R Ring) |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Well. I guess I have to say that I now play spread. Wasn't that way a week ago.. But yeah.
iluswirl - 24 [a s k l] (L middle, L index, R index, R middle) spread |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Submissions don't have to be perfect, so long as I get the info I need.
Corrected: Commandersa1 - 24 [← ↓ num8 num6] (L Ring, L Middle, R Middle, R Ring) spread Made it less confusing. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
2 hand 2 finger... index... yea lol you get the picture.
|
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
cool idea....don't know if others will go for it although it might reduce the number of "Wat Stylez do you Plays wit?!?!?" threads :P
anyways I am spread [z x , .] (L middle L index R Index R Middle) |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
|
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Infinity. - 2,4
Left index hits left arrow, hits up and down depending on the pattern Right index hits down arrow sometimes, not often Right middle hits up arrow almost all the time Right ring hits right arrow all the time |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Back when I played I was two hand, four finger.
zx ./ Index and middle fingers. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
i love gabba: 13 [←↓↑→] ( R index, R index and middle, R middle, R ring ) 1 hand, 3 fingers
|
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Pretty basic spread for me. I like the idea of this topic, though, I'm really interested in seeing all the different styles people use.
qqwref - 24 [z x , .] (L middle, L index, R index, R middle) index middle spread |

Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
It would be most appreciated if we can expand the list through signature advertisement (link is on my sig). The list is really worthless unless if we get most of the active users on the site.
I'm going to assume that the first thread failed because: terrible organization - i solved that im sure. no participation - maybe my submission format is still complicated? =( I see a lot of people just passing through this thread without submitting. I wonder what could be the problem? |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Added it to my signature, hope this thread takes off. :)

Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Ok, I'll post this again.

EDIT: Some extra details on my first style: - AlWAYS used left middle finger for left arrow key, right middle for right key. - Up used by the middle fingers, depending on pattern. I always alternate hands, so if the last arrow was pressed by my left hand and the next arrow is up, I press up key with my right middle finger, and vice-versa. - For down arrow key it's the same thing as previous point, but instead of LEFT MIDDLE, it's LEFT INDEX. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
I'm assuming you use arrow keys.
|
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
For me it's (a s w d) two hands using two index fingers. In other words index style.

Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
There. I made a crappy banner. Oh well. Lol. It's linked and everything.
Edit: Ouch. Distorted colors in the middle. Oh well. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Devonin, 24 asjk index/middle spread
Also, we usually lock "what style do you play" threads because there are just so many of them posted all the time. But this one looks sufficiently well organised and designed as an actual resource instead of "I play this awesome way I bet nobody else does" that chances are you may end up with a sticky, and then we can simply point all similar thread creators to this one. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Give a reference to my incomplete guide. I'm not going to finish any time soon, but I didn't spend 3 hours on it for nothing.

I've gotta say, that thread is awesome. Putting on first post.
Well, we are doing different things. That thread explains, my thread lists players. |

Also, Zageron, three fingers doesn't tell me anything... =_=
number of hands, number of fingers, keys you use, and what finger goes to which key. Tell Destiny to link your thread on his sticky. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Index Middle Spread using Q W [ ].
Would use O and P, but I wore the keys out, lmao. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Index on the standard ARROW keys. I sometimes index with askl for a challenge. :P
|
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Left Middle - S
Left Index - D Right Middle - Num8 Right Ring - Num6 It seems I'm somewhere between "Index Middle Spread" and "Middle Ring Spread". I guess it's a "Index/Ring Hybrid Middle Spread". xD Edit: I suppose "Hybrid Spread" would be a better way to sum up the group. |

Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Hammy founded the name of a new playstyle, congrats to the birth of Hybrid Spread
EAG i need your key format. Zageron i need your full playstyle. |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Primarily, I play one handed, using the following style:
One hand, thee finger, left hand < - Ring finger ^ v - Middle Finger > - Index Finger I am trying to switch to spread, and when this becomes my primary set-up, I will post letting the people of this thread know. Spread set-up: Left Middle Finger: Z Left Index Finger: X Right Index Finger: . Right Middle Finger: / |

Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
A question to you all:
Would you consider 2 hand 4 finger (2 fingers from each hand) on the arrow keys (or something similar) as "spread"? I had the idea that spread had to have distance between the left and right hands. Arrow keys, and the like, have the hands on top of each other, so I haven't put them in spread. Thoughts? If arrow key 2 hand 4 finger is spread, then I'll just put them under Hybrid or Index Middle Spread. If arrow key 2 hand 4 finger is not spread, give me a name for them. I'll take several opinions first. |

Pettanko, middle/index spread. (zx./ for both; though zx65 for pettanko when i'm not too lazy to reconfigure)
midday you know who i am <3 also one hand/3 fingers occasionally as well as index oh and i also used to play hybrid spread if that matters |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles

Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Spread. DF JK
I'm a little different. :) |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
I'm assuming all people who say "spread" are index middle.
EDIT: skc is a can invader guyz Why is pettanko called pettanko? Doesn't make any sense in Japanese (means completely flat). EDIT2: Ok EnR gets the naming credit rofl |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Using 4 fingers on the arrow keys is not called spread, it's 4 fingered xD
|
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Index middle spread
ASKL |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
I play the same way as Hammy, but with different left-hand keys.
I've always felt this to be more "natural". Because the tip of your middle finger is farther out than that of either the index or ring finger, it feels more natural to fit a middle finger with a ring finger on a key lower to the side (as it is on the hand) instead of bringing an index finger up to a key next to a middle finger. Yeah. Really just coining the term "natural spread" as an alternative to "hybrid", but... yeah. "Hybrid" works just as well because different fingers are used on each hand. Oh, also... I think this is also, like, a transition between 4-finger and Mid/Index spread. Because the Mid/Ring finger on the right hand fits right on the arrow keys, and the Mid/Index on the left hand fits under the right hand on the arrow keys. So "transitional" could work as a word for the style, too... aaand now I'm just kind or rambling. Hybrid Spread: (L middle, L index, R middle, R ring) Silvuh - [5 6 num8 num6] |

Another Another Question: There seem to be many index middle spread players who use a s k l. Should I make another subsubsection for you guys? |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
I think anything using spread should stay in the same categorie, meaning:
ASKL, DFJK, QW[], ZX./, <v86 etc... |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
askl is very common. About as much as zx./, I'd say. So if you're going to make one subsection, you may as well make a second.
EDIT: EnR is right. There's really no reason to split it up. Just keep it as one category. |

Index middle spread, same keys as above. :) |
Re: FFR Player's Handstyles
Ok, but don't ask me, "How many people play [? ? ? ?]?" after 200 people are on the spread list. That's my primary concern. Unless if there's some fast counting method.
If you guys may want tallies for certain key formats in the future, I should make subsections for them. If you don't need such tallies, then I won't. Once again, unless if there's some fast counting method. |

Two hands, Four fingered
I don't know what you call this style, but I believe I am the only person on FFR using this style as a main, and someone else can come up with a fancy name for it. Suggested names: * Asian/Azn [lol] * Destiny [lol] Number Pad ← = L middle ↓ = R index ↑ = R middle → = R ring |

3 finger, 2 hands.
Left: left index. Right: right middle. Up/down: right index. Switch to index for long jacks. I'm working on going spread, like this: up: right index. down: left index. left: left middle. right: right middle. That one's hard, you need to overlap your hands. |
