That doesn't matter since every user signs up with a unique IP.

Really our only answer is a captcha, but the vbulletin update mucked up our captcha so we have to start all over again coding it.

What about what I suggested about limiting the abilities for new users to create new topics? If they need to reply to an existing thread before they can create a new topic, wouldn't that stop them? If they have to wait a day before being able to post a new thread, wouldn't that stop them? Aren't both of these effects common elements of forums to help maintain order?

Every time you reply, you make about 100 new links to the thread. Even just clicking on the thread makes a ton of links to the thread. It's annoying. Cut it out.

How does viewing a thread, but not replying to it "[make] tons of links to the thread"?

Ok so I only found two and they're temporary but still.

If you are looking at someone's profile page or forum profile page as they're viewing an ad thread, they might click it. Sometimes vbulletin thinks you're still viewing it even if you've closed the browser, so that link will stay there until you visit another thread.

I was wondering what the purpose for a spam bot spamming without ads could be... do they really do that? I'd think that they would either spam relentlessly regardless of that sort of thing, or they'd just stop spamming if they find heavy resistance that is difficult to overcome.

EDIT: NFD, I edited for more subtle sarcasm. Sometimes I post right what comes to my head, and it looks like I'm flaming/trolling or whatever.

If you would use common sense, you would realize that an AD-bot is for ADVERTISING, which gets money. FFR ADVERTISES by using the green text you see every so often.

Some of the bot threads I deleted actually had no links to other sites at all. That's what he's referring to. They were just random posts. One of them was like "This is an interesting election huh?"

And I'm so glad I got rid of that green text.

Spamming and advertising are basically the same thing on a forum. It depends on the context.

That would make lurking without registering impossible. Also, it would discourage new users.
