Updated characters would be nice. If we had bad-ass characters with sexy hott, half naked chicks and handsomely buff male dudes we would prolly have a bigger audience.

also, carlos, i would just... lose my sht if you did

each new level unlocks a new chapter or something? Maybe boss songs?

edit: oh yeah forgot that none of this shit would ever get done anyway. Can't count on the staff to do anything that requires effort.

I think the tourneys do just that. Songs start easy and get progressively difficult as the rounds progress. And the 6 divisions give people another way to mark their progress and reason to keep improving. Especially this well crafted tournament (that I am going to win!) where songs are picked based on what patterns and techniques are used.

I think you just answered your own question. Skill tokens are a great unlock system (other than that antipa rubbish) and not linear at all. Well, except for the chains where you have to unlock one skill token before you can even attempt the one that requires you to have it. But you can still go that route or work on other skill tokens in the mean time.

I think this misses the point. Having hard songs available to play is a good way practice those songs. To use the other extreme as an example, I really hate games that force players to start with mind-numbingly easy sections before they can get to what is even their starting skill level. I think having some songs as skill tokens, including hard and easy challenges, is a good middle ground that gives players of all skill levels something to work at.

We have a detailed picture dictionary for those who wish to learn the terminology. And the nice thing about most rhythm games, FFR included, is that you do not have to learn all the terminology to be able to play the game well. For example, I have been around for over 8 years and only recently learned that staircases and rolls had names. But not knowing the terminology never stopped me from learning to hit the patterns.

they're afraid of effort, not change. They've done a lot of stuff that takes no effort but brings a lot of change to the site. EG. Recently the Credit Cap was bumped to 120c, changing what had been a long standing tradition of FFR to keep it at 60c.

In my view they really are just lazy as hell and have no incentive to work. The growing mountain of tasks is also another reason they probably don't feel like working; it seems like too much. It's not like we pay them to do this either.

Re: The Current Path of FFR

Step One: complete the new tier point system - this allows anyone to get Tp by simply passing songs and gives early players much needed PA goals to strive for (How long has this great idea from the community sat idle?)

Step Two: better easy files - I have invited several people to join ffr but a common complaint is that good easy files are few and far between. Step three is similar -

Step Three: Separate legacy ranks and hide them from view on the main song screen - maybe we can add a legacy achievements system using tokens or profile badges, but off sync charts don't bring in new players and looks unprofessional. I've been told by a friend who recently started playing that it's like a minefield trying to find a good song to play, and the blue note charts are the mines. I suggest having a 'show legacy songs' option in the settings menu and adding legacy achievements to incentivize playing the site's original files. Having them in their own ranks and hidden from view would make them more optional and make it easier for new players to find good charts to play.

Step Four: visual makeover - this game is about a decade old and sure looks it. Let's get a new design that is more user friendly and then maybe the new players would use the forum more as well.

Step Five: Community attitude - fewer trolls, that is all

I think one of the problems is actually the people stepping the songs? The charts are getting better but tougher and tougher too, and I think that's because the simfile makers are the active players, and active players are usually pretty good. Since simfile makers step files that they're personally gonna love, they're gonna have to be difficult files, because they obviously prefer files that are quite challenging to them or at their level.
