What a horrible tourney Posted on: November 16, 2007, at 01:46:42am Since I haven't bashed how horrible I think a lot of stuff on this site is yet, I've got a few more things to say about stuff I just find ridiculously unreasonable. First of all, that guy who I quoted in my sig about asking if it doesn't save your score if you use a trainer is the guy who won the intermediate division. He didn't get DQ'd or anything. There were other people who'd done stuff much less suspicious that got DQ'd. Even Rubix is A LOT more believable to me than that guy. I've actually reached about 98% confidence that Rubix is legit, based on that people can only fake so much above how good there really are realistically, and so it's obvious he'd still be the best player even if he's done some cheating to get a little better, but I also think he's smart enough to realize what good it does people to cheat at this game--a lot more people doing stuff you won't like in tons of ways, and a lot more crap, with really no real advantages. And this wasn't even the worst of it. What bothers me most is that tass, and a lot of other staff for that matter, are way too obsessed with feeling above other people. Not just them trying to make us feel below them all the time, but now it's become like that with tons of stuff in FFR, like all that token garbage. And now, Tass was talking about people with vrofl defending it, or trying to prevent other people from getting it by doing good in tourneys again. That is just...painfully deadly. Seriously, I wanted to drop out of advanced if I didn't think I could reach the top 3 before reaching the final 8 to let someone else get it. We need to all act as a team against their evil ways of trying to make us be on different levels of above each other and watch out for each other. And all letting more people get vrofl really does for those of us who don't have it is make it so we're less likely to get asked as much for challenges at it. And the more competition there is at something, the more glory there is in accomplishing it. I.E. The more people that have vrofl that have all failed to pass it or anything like that, barring quadholding, the greater glory there would ever be to someone who actually did it. Anyway, I've decided I'm never participating in another official FFR tourney again, as long as vrofl is offered in it, since I shouldn't take that from other people just for a small chance at a small monetary prize. Not that I was really planning on doing so anymore anyway, but this just makes that even more so. And I still feel like being good at FFR is a MUCH bigger advantage than being a subscriber. The best players get A LOT more respect than other players do for the most part, by those who believe them, anyway. And I've gotten to where I don't care if there are a million subscriber songs. Being good still gets you a better selection, as you will get subscriber songs eventually, but if you aren't good, you can easily never get Otaku. And I still feel like that token garbage has made FFR a pay to play game, as I doubt anyone, except Rubix, could earn it on the keyboard I've played more FFR on than any other. Therefore, I have to pay to earn the last semihard song, as there are no actually hard songs in FFR. It needs more Gigadelic, Death Reveals, Red Sign, 0x1311, and NVLM's OML type songs. Every song added in a huge length of time has been way too tass-like. He will only accept stuff that I can't stand anymore, which is really to his disadvantage. Like what Rubix tries to tell us, people should work on their weaknesses. As long as tass won't add much with his weaknesses to FFR, he will continue to fall behind tons of other people in skill. I wish FFR was still how it was when I joined. I'd trade all this new stuff like MP, profiles, vids, all that stuff, just to have garbage songs/tokens/skill tokens gone. Why? I'll tell you why. I used to think FFR was so fun, as I felt like I sucked as I sat there mashing CIA for the 10th time in a row. But, you know what? Back then, I felt like skill level didn't matter. No matter how bad you were, you could still play and do the exact same stuff as the best player could and have a great time. I really am starting to miss that. Now I feel like I have to do everything I can to do better and improve my skills all the time, which is just not as fun for me. And I still feel totally cheated with how unfair things were to downscrollers. I dread any and all new features ever added from this day on because they probably won't exist in reverse at first, or won't work in reverse at first, or will be something those evil people came up with as another lame way for people to feel above other people. All of this is why I really just can't stand to be here anymore. I just feel like it's totally boring and with no rewards or gains worth mentioning anymore. I even feel like I'm treated worse now by the staff than 3 years ago, since they probably consider me a threat to catching up to their postcounts or something, so then they wouldn't feel as much above me, which is really just that...well, they're too big of failures to be happy with whatever is currently going on in their lives. This will probably be my last random thought, unless they do something with vids where I need to post them as one of these and not just have them as my last 10 vids or w/e. And I'm not playing another game of FFR, EVER. Edit: ok, so I know it's not nearly all the staff that's acting how I said in this, just some of them. And I had other stuff to say, but can't seem to remember it right now. Well, w/e, I might edit it in sometime. Or maybe I just don't care enough even though I think it was something really good, but it doesn't really do me any good anyway lol. P.S.: Go to Rithum.com, it's the best video game site ever, with almost all very cool posters there, IMO. I'll still be hanging out there, anyway. |

Well put Doug, I remember playing you a long time ago and you were one of the nicest low ranked players I've ever met. I'm gonna miss you buddy, lets have a SMO sesh sometime eh?

I read this twice. I like your view on things. And I personally 100% agree. Though Tokens are there for people to feel an accomplishment. I do think that many more MUCH harder songs should be added to FFR.

Although i understand where you're coming from, in a competitive environment like this there will always be people who have a want and a need to feel better than someone else. Of course the mods will cater to that. But in any case, well said.

I agree, I remember when it didnt matter whether you were good or not. now its like all competition and if you not so good, you get nothing but shunned, and yes there should be harder, way harder songs.

Erm, kind of a late comment on this, but I agree with your points on this entry.

I didn't know you very well but I enjoyed your posts and I must say I haven't played much lately because I don't really play for fun anymore and I think you helped me realize that with this entry.

I'm obviously late on this, and I don't know if you'll read this, Doug, but I'd at least like to point out to everyone reading this that I disagree with almost every point made in this random thought. Considering how one-sided the writing above is, I'd like to provide a different viewpoint for readers so that everyone can make a decision on their own without being swayed too much by others one way or the other. The first point made about those running the tournament not taking action concerning a possible (or definite?) cheater I will assume has some degree of truth to it, and I think that is dangerous and should have been or should be addressed, but it doesn't seem like that was a focal point of the entry.
The first point I'd like to argue is that Tass and others are "obsessed with feeling above other people." The only real instance of this I have seen is TWG, which is a joke in itself, but that's an entirely different discussion. How are any of the staff obsessed with their po

I just spend more than an hour typing up a response to this, and it was completely destroyed by a character limit I was unaware of. I'm not exactly upset, as though thought process I was able to make myself more aware of my own stance on the topics provided, but I don't think I want to take the time to reproduce it anywhere. What I included at the end of it, though, was way more important than any specific point I tried to make. The FFR staff works to give us an entertaining game for free. No matter how specific you get, and how upset you are over the inclusion or exclusion of anything in the game, it's being provided free for you. Take it or leave it.

Wow, enjoy what you have. You cant play Otaku Oni. What a shame. Theres only 400+ other songs to play.
Mods aren't worried about there status or post count. They are busy as hell try and to make this site more appealing to as many people as possible.
I do wish there more FGO type songs, they are the only songs I play anymore because there fun and challenging. I will live, there is SM for that.
Sad to see you go, but if your so screwed up about FFR then I hope you enjoy whatever else you put your time into.
