And on a serious note, how many of you listen to Whitney Houston on a regular basis that you're really that affected by her passing? korny is right, probably less than 10 of you, but you all explode with sympathy because she's "famous".

I don't listen to her at all. I don't even like her music, personally. Her death doesn't really affect me much.

But like I said, it doesn't mean I don't understand her contributions, or realize why many others do care, and it doesn't really do me much good to go out of my way to tell them how much I don't care.

foilman fails to comprehend this difference.
Others restate Reincarnate's scenario in the hopes of clarifying for foilman
foilman again responds to a different scenario (straw man) each time.
foilman again fails to see the difference each time.

About Whitney Houston: I don't know her. I didn't listen to her music. She doesn't affect me personally that I know of (at least not directly). She doesn't mean anything to me but that doesn't mean she didn't mean something to some people. Let those people have their thread. I just found the cognitive disconnect amusing or I wouldn't have posted here.

Come on, dude--you know we can't mourn the death of every "starving child in Africa" or what have you, nice as that thought is. if you don't care about houston, that's fine. but why bother the people who do?

i mourn the death of the starving children in africa as much as i mourn pop stars. which is not at all. if we all collectively quit giving a shit about singers who's hey-day has long passed, maybe some REAL news would come on the tv. the syrian army is using captured rebels as human shields on their tanks and the Greek police are threatening to warrant arrests for top officials of the EU and IMF. and here you are plugged into your tv all up in whitney houstons life like she's out there making a real difference in the world.

so if you think foil and myself and Giggles are assholes for being angry that we have to be subjected to this kind of sensationalist BULLSHIT every day by the media and anybody who gives the media the time of day, i can assure you the sentiment is mutual.

but whole leagues of people have this "you shouldn't care about this because it's insignificant in the Grand Scheme of Things!" to which they conveniently only adhere when someone famous dies. Most of these people, by saying stuff like "YEAH BUT PEOPLE DIE EVERY DAY" essentially imply that, every time something bad happens, you should essentially weigh it against other really bad things that happen like children starving in africa and, if it doesn't hold up, not get upset about it. Which, of course, they wouldn't do--nobody does

maybe you're overanalyzing why people don't care when celebrities die. some people literally don't give a **** about celebrities. why is this so hard to believe? if you're going to bring up people dying, might as well keep the conversation going and talk about other people that are dying. know wat i mean?

The true reason I actually worry about the world is because of the drama and falsities that come from Hollywood. They distract us from crap that is important. Pre-Hollywood people were actually pretty intelligent. They also knew why it was important to do chores, and they even knew for the most part that they had purpose without some "significant other". Now it's bs where we can't go one day without hearing about some crap about "Will and Kate's Honey Moon! OMG". Sure, it stimulates the economy pretty well, but really, it's not that much of a benefit to society to place so much power in the hands of people who barely know left from right.

tl;dr, some rant about hollywood being ****ed up and asking why we are actually putting so much into a business that is distracting us from the important facts.

But then again this is just "emithith being retarded" so move on and ignore me.
