You can breed a Pokemon with a number of other Pokemon that are similar to it, but the child will always be the same breed as the mother. If your Turtwig is male, you do need a Ditto to get more.

Also keep in mind that if your Japanese Turtwig was not nicknamed by the original trainer (its name would be ナエトル), then its name will change to English if you let it evolve.

Alright, so I'm wondering if anyone else noticed this:

I Just got the third gym badge (Veristone City) and my team is pretty much all at about lvl 30 (I use four pokemon at the moment.)

I Still have to do the warehouse, get fly, find the next city with a gym (pastoria I'm guessing), then kill all the trainers on the way there, the trainers in the gym AND the gym leader, and NONE OF MY POKEMON will obey me anymore. WTF is up with that? I remember this being a SLIGHT problem in the other games (maybe a pokemon or two not obeying sometimes right at the 4th gym leader), because it's the 4th badge that allows pokemon up to lvl 50 to obey you, but still, this is ridiculous.

Do you overtrain your Pokemon or something? I like to be a minimalist in Blue/Red especially and use like two/three Pokemon for the entire game, and I've never had a problem with their levels being too high for them to obey. I've never even come close.

Recently got back into the Pokemon craze. Finished Fire Red then Pearl, it's basically the same game with slightly updated graphics and more uglier pogeys.

I used to be the same way.. only trained one or two pokemon to just get through the game. But then Jamuko showed me that it was fun to train your team evenly, even though it's a pain in the beginning >.>

She already posted my friend code Err.. yea.. so if anyone wants to battle or trade just lemme know. I have two boxes of eevees, they are nicknamed but I can rename them easily. I've never tried to play competitively before, I'd like to be able to learn by practicing if it's okay. Even though I'm a total noob at it...

I never knew anyone only kept two or three pokemon on their team...

I mean, I always started with grass (not in Pearl, though. Pingu ftw) and then caught a few of the level 3 guys outside the first town. I had 6 pokemon long before the first gym.

I guess it would make sense to only keep two or three really strong ones so as to level them much faster, but then they'd have to be really good to ensure you're covering all of the weakness/strength bases.

I've never had 6 pokemon still after the 4th gym in each game. Takes too long earlier, since there just seem to be too little trainers to me. I've never had that disobeying problem either.

meh, The pokemon I usually want on my team aren't ones you find early in the game (this was the case for all the games). I have 7 badges in Ruby, and have still yet to pick my 6th team member.

I have 4 pokemon in this game now, 1 of which I'm getting rid of pretty soon (Turtwig). I've yet to come across any water or dragon type, (that's what I'm missing.) I'm also curious about WHEN you get an eevee in this series. It's usually when you're around lvl 15 - 30, so I'm expecting to find one soon.

You DO get one in this game, right?

That's the case with me. In gold and silver, I wanted Pikachu, Lugia and Lapras ( right spelling?) for my team to go against the elite four. Lapras wasn't that bad, except I would always beat it or run out of pokeballs, at leats it came back every friday. I also wanted Dratini, wasn't too bad either, just wasted all of my money and couldn't catch other pokemon or heal them in battles.

I usually just use the pokemon I get as I go along, but this time I'm going for the ones I actually care about, so I'm only really using four at the moment.

And I hear the troubles with the pokemon not obeying you, especially since my second and third ones are starter trades, and have stopped obeying since before the first gym. I had hoped that the Coal Badge would help, but OOPS. So now I'm basically down to a Monferno and a Kadabra, except when I feel like taking ten minutes to do a single battle.

ObserveR, sorry to say you can't get an Eevee for quite a while. It's not in the Sinnoh pokedex, so you don't even see one until after you beat the game and get the national dex (meaning, you can't even search for it in online trading). The only way to get one earlier would be to trade with one of us or a nearby friend who has it (and when you get it, its pokedex number will be "???", haha).

If you really want I can breed another one and not nickname it just for you, but I'd kinda want something cool for it.

I've never had to worry about my Pokemon not obeying me... kinda made me think it only applied to traded Pokemon, but guess not. I do like to keep my Pokemon relatively evenly trained, but they're still overleveled in the context of the storyline. I find it more fun to raise a bunch of them that cater to every type, so you can put the minor amount of thought into switching to things that can kill in one hit. Makes battles a lot less tedious-feeling.

Same game, so my name is still Michael and still Pearl version. Hope you guys would take the time to register me. I'd appreciate it. I go on wifi randomly, and sometimes I set up games and stay on for about 20 minutes. To see if anyone is on. I like playing randomly like that.

I just get cool pokemon that I like on my team early on. I have not had obeying problems, I evenly train my Pokemon, and it seems all my pokemon are 5-10 levels under the area pokemon all the time. I can easily beat them, though. I just started training a new team because I was bored.
