I know most of this, I'm able to beat the Expert ghosts on most tracks.

I'm mostly wondering at this point:

1. How people are coming out of the start so fucking fast on time trial. I've tried saving my boost for the end of the lap and whatnot, doesn't seem to do much. People end up like a mile ahead of me right out of the gate but don't really pull away, I don't know what's going on there.

2. Fastest characters/mods? I know it's probably track dependent but in general.


Game is fun as hell so far. 6 hrs in 1 day - NOT HEALTHY.

1) Everyone uses a boost right before the new lap starts. This is very powerful with a character with 6 boost (ralph and gilius can have 6 boost, not sure who else can)

some people will also do a level 3 drift before the finish line, but I think that's sometimes bad as you can use it to boost over rough terrain and save more time)

2) Many maps can be done with 1 handling and 1 accel. So you have 5speed/5boost, 4speed/6boost, or 6 speed/4boost (not even sure if the last one exists yet). Ocean View is best done with 6boost I think. The Billy Hatcher and Burning Ranger levels are two where handling and accel might play a role (accel helps on turns where you need to let go of gas, or rapidly tap gas, not sure which one the best players do)



Edit: Good benchmark characters with 5speed/5boost are Shadow/Vyse/MetalSonic (not sure if others exist, and don't have robotnik unlocked)
I like to use them for my first attempts at a low time

Uh... while we're on the topic of steam. All this card/badge business got me looking at the market, something I've never done before. In doing so, I discovered I owned two identical Dota 2 cosmetics worth $40 each o_o. I don't even play Dota 2 anymore and I'm pretty sure I either got these for free or something cheap like $2.50. iirc there was like some bug with them and they were removed from the store making them super rare.

tl;dr I just made the easiest $80 of my life. Practically like the steam sale was free this year. <3

ps if i sold them last month they were worth $70 each ;_;

I've noticed high boost stats improve speed much more than high speed. e.g. going from like 4 speed to 6 speed only shaves a bit of time off, but going from 3 boost to 5 boost made me ridiculously faster. Gotta get a character with 6 boost

Just finished Fez (and all the secrets, completion percentage 209.4%) -- some of those secrets were *really fucking hard* to figure out. I kept a notebook full of random bullshit and took screenshots to save for later translation and everything.

I had to look up the Black Monolith solution, though. I still have no freaking idea how you're supposed to solve that one legitimately. I don't have anything in my notes that make it clear what you're supposed to even look for... I must have missed something somewhere.

But thank goodness for that map feature. Made things a lot easier in terms of backtracking.

There's also a final hidden room you can get into once you get all the cubes, but it's kinda anticlimactic -- just a v-shaped/heart-shaped cubey thing.

Nobody knows why the solution of the black monolith is what it is. I was a part of a group that worked at brute forcing it which is how it came to be. I remember reading somewhere that Phil Fish said earlier this year that nobody to his knowledge actually knows why that was the solution.

EDIT: Braid and Limbo come to mind when I think of other good puzzle platformers with Braid being the more complicated game. Limbo's kinda short and the puzzles aren't too tough, but the game was still pretty fun.

Already solved Braid -- and I'm really proud of that one because I did it without a walkthrough (even for the stars).

But Fez right now is eating my brain. I want to solve the Monolith but everything else seems to be (more or less) accounted for.

People have been going at it since the solution was found, but nobody had it cracked. If I remember correctly, the soundtrack had some hidden stuff in the soundwaves or something but I don't think anything came about that.
