i'm going to ramble about things

feel like there's inherently some bullshit as the wolves benefit from using their vigis immediately during the first night, because i think it's nearly always more beneficial to have used it before dying, rather than to have died w/o using it. Essentially, you could make it a 10 player setup with 4 scum w/ no killing power, and 6 remorseful towns, and examine the balance in that.

having essentially 14 killing power for night one (technically 24 because each town 1-shot can kill up to 2 people) leads to games that are fine for like, irl games where you have generally less time to play, and less likely to be ok for a forum setting i think.

I agree with Yoshl in that, forum games are usually not meant to end quickly and that this is a setup that is more designed towards irl settings where games are not expected to last more than 30 min at most.
FWIW I think you're on the right track regarding the remorseful modifier

re: bolded - "no" killing power as in absolutely none, or revert to the usual team kill? regardless, those specific numbers would need to be better because one town misfire = parity loss

it looks like the thing i forgot to account for most is that wolves knowing each other's identities really turns nights into town slaughter. as SKs they at least have a chance of hitting each other. so yeah, wolves definitely need less killing power; a team kill seems like it would be more reasonable.

as i write this i'm liking wolves having a team kill more. the bullet bounce given by the first mechanic stays informational. if wolves can't kill, the setup is broken

yeah, you can definitely see the real-life influence

yep, now that i played twgabout, the main realization i had was forum games are markedly longer form than IRC/live games, and the setups compensate for that. thanks for words

i believe the term that's been used in previous games was the town desperado, who kills themselves if they hit a town as well

also, the bolded part that you highlighted is essentially if you take your setup past night 1, where all 4 wolves can pop their 1-shot vigi (4 wolves with 0 kp, and down 4 towns)

i read desperado and it wasn't quite the right term, because i understand their kill as a public day kill. tried to come up with modifiers like "night desperado who doesn't have to announce their kill" but it was a little easier to work from vig

so my fix in my previous post is not really a fix because it suffers from the same breaking strategy as the original game. hmmmmm

The modifier doesnt really matter I think. I dont believe we need a glossary of modifiers or something; as long as its explained what it does, I think its k.

pretty much that. i have the flame wars series and the arsonist there functions very differently than what people would be used to arsonists functioning as and w/e

                  Re: TWG Game Building Thread

unbreaking this game seems like it would involve playing with the ratio

i can give wolves their guns back, and adjusting the ratio down one wolf to 10:3 is probably in order, so if we follow yoshl's plan it's 6:3 on day two and wolves have no killing power. 10:3 feels like it favors town a bit though?

but 9:3 puts you at 5:3 on day 2 (i'll just continue to assume mislynches as well) and that means wolves only need to push two lynches to win. thing is, in that scenario, town has all their shots.

the reason why wolves shouldn't all shoot anyway is because the game breaks after that, usually in town's favor, the same way the original does. it's to their benefit to drag things out.

so if you have a 9:3 start and wolves take one shot per night and force mislynches by day, your days go 7:3, 5:3, then 3:3. same pacing but you'll likely have a counter to stupid town strategies. is 9:3 too low then?

the game doesn't break, because everyone has the same exact claim: a town with a vigi shot. There's no way for town to coordinate their vigi shots, and while there's shennanigans with asking a specific person to put out a kill or something, it detracts from what twg is - a problem solving, and person reading game

ok, it doesn't "break" as catastrophically as the term perhaps deserves. but town organizing pairs for a mass shootout can still only turn out pro-town, and it's auto-win if wolves are not paired and have no shots left. they can do this publicly, during the day, in thread. this makes it seem, to me, that wolves are actually best served by playing it like a regular twg game so they conserve shots.

and if wolves are paired, town still loses a shitton. game becomes less about solving and more about gaming the setup

like, you don't want instances where abc does xyz and the game becomes stupid

where abc is a legitimate play, not something like outing their entire wolf team
