I'm all for letting harder files into the public ranks, just that when people send in hard files they're generally either horribly patterned/awkward or just
not layered properly and thus not technically correct. It's just really difficult to make a difficult and fun chart.
I totally agree, except for the layering part. What's so wrong about layering any number of instrument ? (as long as it's not too hard to follow/hear)

Layering all of the same sound then missing one has apparently been deemed technically incorrect. It certainly feels weird and sloppy and that's become an accepted thing to avoid.

Re: Let harder files in ?

I was referring to lack of consistency and such. Yes, the file does its purpose of being hard, but if it's filled with technical errors, it should be rejected just like any other file with errors. There's nothing wrong with layering if it's done correctly.

        EDIT: ninja'd by cornman goddamn

Alright, I'll spend a few hours stepping files tommorow then and even if they're bad/good, I'll try to get as much feedback as I can from some willing judges/test players.

And to Rubix, I agree that the lenght has something to do with the overall difficulty of a file, but we can't have like plenty of 10 minutes+ files unless they are still fun to play and not repetitive.
Its like you ignored everything else in my post.

Also I didn't call your idea stupid I called this thread stupid

              difficulty level: down syndrome

Because the song and chart are just that retarded to the point where you would have a good chance of developing down syndrome after playing.

Re: Let harder files in ?

It doesn't even need to be Vrofl DUMP GAMMA V2, just some fresh stuff in the 80+ zone would be awesome. Lets see what we got in the past few months:

-(July 5th) Nanairopanda remix stuck behind THE WORST TOKEN
                - (April 27th) Return to fire stuck in secrets (Not a big issue, but still)
                - (March 15th) Tourny song batch, Unconnected behind an event token and 2 new songs (Taking Mushrooms/Go Beyond)

                And in that time
                14; 70-79 songs
                30; 60-69
                37; 59 and under

You don't need to be AAA'ing a file to benefit from it, playing a little above your comfort zone can be a good way to improve. And in my opinion, good hard files stay relevant a hell of a lot longer than anything sub-50. Most people in that difficulty range AAA and move on with the small exception for a favorite file/song, but even those get outgrown when people get better and move onto harder songs.

It doesn't mean stop putting easier songs into the game, but FFR has grown over the years. And over those years there have been tons of awesome lower difficulty files added, where as the really difficult stuff is much more recent. A new hard file every other week wouldn't cut into the number of "average player" files in any meaningful way and would give some people something to look forward to as they progress, and others a new challenge to keep the game fresh. If people want to complain about completion, they're playing the wrong game. (That being said, I do agree with moving Rato/DP to skill tokens though)

iirc plan_bsck didn't like vortex because "song too strange too closeminded to enjoy must play another hard vsnares, newground, or rock fiel to sate my needs"

Chiming in to say this (as a judge):

The current judgment mentality truly prevents really hard files from getting in game. That's how I feel.

EDIT: if FFR was structured more like osu! or FeelTheBeats in a way where there wasn't a fixed song list, it would be a lot easier to have really hard files in.

I have a collab that I'm working on with hi19hi19, and I'm very willing to bet that it would get rejected easily simply because I'm forcing difficulty due to wanting a -very- hard file. It's accurate (sans a few ghost notes that I need to fix thanks to Fission mentioning them to me), but it probably won't matter. If it's not inaccurate, it's too rigid and hard in terms of patterning. It's a catch 22, unfortunately.

I hated having to reject Gate Openerz as a judge, because I'm a person who wouldn't mind a brutal stamina file for a DJ Sharpnel song (ITG mentality, oops). I would love to see icyworld's We Luv Lama [Oni] in game. It'll never happen, though.

This has nothing to do with what I'm talking about though. There's still judges that are too unforgiving towards people that are trying to make obscenely hard files that make sense.

I mean fucking christ, it's even happened to you with multiple judges claiming that "the file is not fit for FFR". As I've said in that previous argument, it's not up to them to decide. That kind of mentality promotes linearity and nothing will ever change.

(leaving this thread now before I get too into it, I have Networking shit to do.)
