It's more on the fact that files like this are just not suitable for a combo-based game like this. I understand that there should be files that should be hard to FC but also should be in the leaderboards, but for files like RATO and DP, people just mindlessly mash the entire thing just to get a respectable rank. If they're in token ranks, they'd probably be more inclined to PA it instead.

Slightly off topic, but I'd much rather see CP outside token ranks as well.
This mashing for a good rank will still be an issue. If the top players are okay with allowing these scores to exist while they try to PA and perhaps miss a note or two and have their rank tank, I don't see why not. Otherwise, perhaps there isn't really a need for these files.

Well take RATO and DP, best players have best scores, even if it took time to get the FC along with the nice score. Eventually, the hardest files will also have normal rankings, even with the mashed FCs

I can sort of agree with dossar's point...making difficult files that are also stepped accurately limits your pattern choices a lot indeed. Off the top of my head, there's only a couple accurately charted songs that are harder than DP/RATO that I can think of and they are over-charted as fuck (Blue Planet, Passage D, Chik Habit, lmao).

This leaves you with only a few options for keeping awkward stuff out from layering:

-Have fast streams (~320bpm+...Eclipse Solar is a good example though on the easy side in this motif)
-Polyrhythms out the ying-yang that give high density (something like Connect 1986)
-Long files with high intensity (something like cetaka's Rain or w/e)
-Heavy jacks with no really bad transitions (Adcar could fit in here but it's iffy)

It's REALLY hard to find a song that yields the above results when charted accurately...hence why midare/mina packs and other dumps are so prevalent.

Why so focused on "accurate stepping" ? As long as the notes still give a nice feel of hitting stuff to the rythm of the song, I see no problem. Debate ?

We'll see, the more arguments I get (for or against my idea), the more fixes I can bring to my suggestions.

I think there are enough difficult songs:/ I couldnt see more than 10-20 people even coming within 50 AAAs away from completing the game. I understand there is a demand for harder files for those tier 0/1 people, but what about all those players who are sick of mashing every file? Not talking about anyone in particular, just a general statement. Something to think about. I do believe that there should be some extra feature to challenge those who have attained your level of skill and above though.

Well, that point is pretty much what I'm expecting from most players that arent D6/D7. MY answer to it being that you guys still get files for your level in batches, it's not like we'd Only make insane charts now eh... Also, if you mash the tougher files just to have FCs on them and get nice (but totally not revelant) scores, I'd just tell you to stop complain about even tougher files cuz they're not meant for you (at your actual skill level) or just not play them.

Re: Let harder files in ?

This is actually one of the reasons my favorite files tend to be FMO level (as opposed to FGO+ level). The only way to make files harder (all else held constant) is to generally make them faster and denser, but it's hard to find good candidates for those kinds of stepcharts without resorting to crazy hypercore shit just to get an excuse to spam arrows errwhere. Every time you hear a BRRRRRTT = 64th rolls! Fast drum-machines = time to insert a bunch of jackjumps! Blech.

FMO charts tend to be more intelligently-stepped IMO because you can't "hide" behind the music as much. The steps have to actually make sense, and I just find that FMO-level stuff is perfect for striking that balance between speed/density and sensibility.

This is just my own opinion, but I think the key is overall length. Idk if it's just me, but something like Little God Channel / Planet Karma / Across Rooftops makes me sweat bullets like no other in comparison to, say, Grind2 where you can pump out the AAA if you try enough times and restart when you mess up. A long FMO? You're in that shit for the long haul and you can't afford to restart as often. Focus becomes a much higher priority unless you have infinite patience and time. A long FMO can "become" an FGO in my eyes, and I it's the sort of difficulty I'd prefer. At least that opens the pathway to smarter stepcharts instead of pushing through the other dimension of faster/denser/louder/jackier/burstier/JUMPSTREAMGOCRAZZZZYYYYY!11one

</hasn't played seriously in years now so take all of this with a grain of salt >

I'd like to point out the sheer quantity of files difficulty 60-40 in comparison to files difficulty 75+.

                              (hint: there's a lot more 60-40 songs)

If your advice to lower division players is to simply not play them how are they supposed to challenge themselves and get better? Also, why demolish the hopes of those say in d5 who are working on their public level ranks? The hard songs are gonna be good for a lucky few and ruin the experience for serious players who are not at your levels.

I'm not trying to be mean, just trying to look at it from an outside perspective. I'm not all that opposed to letting some harder songs in.
