Sounds like an epic plan! I'll meet up with you in the airport hotel, get breakfast and then get the car with you. Maybe Hammy would be able to transfer info towards our room reservation or somethin'. Awesome! Too excited!

                      Re: Chicago FFR Meet-up

Aw man, I said July 1st–2nd earlier, because the six-week summer session ends at Austin Community College on that Thursday, so I would have been able to come up then... But it turns out that the physics class I need to take is only available for the eleven-week session, which doesn't end till August 8.

I have registration holds that I'm having a little difficulty clearing ... one asks to visit a campus to have an advising session, but I can't do that from Denton. Registration ends on May 18th, and I won't be back until May 14th. I should be find a solution before then, but even still, it's possible the the Physics session I'm planning on registering for may be filled ... the other times are while my mom is at work, so I'd have to deal with the public transportation system.

I'm also going to be taking an English class. I can either take it in a six-week session or an online eleven-week session and still be able to come up.

These are two classes that I failed in my first semester here at University, so I need to replace those grades (the sooner, the better) to scratch those 0s off my University GPA (because it's 1.47 right now, haha.)

Oh, and when I come up to Chicago I ain't just gon'na be coming up for the meet. Some of my best friends live in the area, so I'd want to spend like a whole week with them. But I do want to be able to attend the meet, too. Because there's no classes on Friday, it's possible I could come up for just Friday–Sunday, but I don't want to buy a ticket and only spend one full day in Chicago. If I do that, I'd have to come up again in August to spend more time with my friends there.

                      TL;DR
                      Basically, there are these options:
                      1. Don't take the four-hour Physics course over the summer, leaving a 0 on my GPA, though getting the English out of the way, allowing coming up for the FFR meet, and getting to hang out with my best friends for a week before returning.
                      2. Take both Physics and English (7 hours), which will scratch both my remaining 0s off my GPA, coming up to Chicago only for Friday–Sunday, and then having to purchase another plane ticket for August so I can come up again to spend more time with my best friends.
                      3. Take both courses, miss out on the FFR convention, only purchasing one ticket in August to be with my best friends.
                      4. Take both courses, go to the FFR convention and stay a week with friends and just skip that one week of classes, catching up with the course work the following week.

And I don't know what I want to do.

Also I have no idea how much plane tickets are supposed to cost. From Austin to Chicago, round trip... Yeah, I don't know what's reasonable.

Your record is still good. This isn't an official convention; just a meet-up.

Prices I've seen in the past have been in the range of $300 to $350 for a round trip ticket from Austin to Chicago. It all depends on when you buy, of course. At this point you'd probably be looking at a price in the $400 area for the July dates. It may go down again, but waiting is more of a gamble when you get to be this close to the departure date.

It's hard to say how many people are going to even bother going to this meet-up. A lot of people on the list haven't shown much interest since the early stages. (It's not surprising since most are from out of state.) Perhaps this will pick up more momentum as the date becomes closer, but currently I only have seen a small group of people still talking about it.

I'd definitely focus on taking those classes. Going to Chicago in August to see your closer friends would be the easiest option. It'd be cheaper for you, assuming you buy the tickets relatively soon, and it seems to me like it would require the least amount of sacrifices.

Yes, this is still happening. I have plane tickets and a few of us have a hotel room. We're doing Gameworks in Schaumburg at 5pm on the 1st of July.
