Well, there's no way of gauging the accuracy of said test.

How did you do on the list of words that I posted, ranging from stuff like Ship to Travesty? That's from an actual, standardized test.


To set the record straight, vocabulary size (if measured correctly) is a very strong predictor of overall IQ. Actually, it's one of the best, next to maybe matrix reasoning and variations of kohns block design (probably the single best measure of intelligence we have right now).

Of course, take this with a grain of salt, depending on whether or not you're defining intelligence as IQ.

Well, vocabulary size is definitely esoteric and someone as unexposed as myself would not yield an accurate result unless I exposed myself more to the lexicons. Maybe in a few years I can try a test and we'll see what I get, because I'll most likely be more adequately exposed by then.

36,500. I can say most of these words I know arose into my mind due to:

A) Reading the dictionary for fun
B) Dilligent encyclopedia study
C) Lots of reading fiction and old authors

Of course, just those things don't make me (or anyone) smart. A lot of intelligence derives not just from knowledge but how it's shown in words, sensibility, and other social factors.

That's pretty surprising. I've been to a lot of the more progressive places in the US, and I don't think that the average person in, say, Seattle is any more or less intelligent than the average person in Austin. Houston probably less so, but that's just a factor of population.

I'll just go ahead and say I either fall within an inaccuracy threshold or my comprehensive utilization ratio is abnormally high. Balderdash is a fine option as well.

All of my vocabulary comes from never getting below a 100 on a spelling\definition test, extensive video games, critical thinking works, absorbedly elevated latent contextual inference memory (that's totally my normal speech), and http://thesaurus.com/ when I'm looking for a more precise word.

I can definitely see Rein/Devonin/Reach having a bigger vocabulary than me though. Maybe I'm more thorough with less or my articulation conjures an illusion of greater expansiveness.
