Good points, Priv. I think you just drove my insanity a bit deeper.

Well, sadly enough, sometimes that's just the way it is. In my experience, some guys have gotten into "relationships" with girls only for sex. Now, that's about as low as you can get. Actually, it's kinda sad, in a way.Originally posted by PrivateerAs for you, Chardish--I know one of the reasons you want to hold off on sex is because you want to make sure you don't fall in love with someone for the sex or vice versa. If you had sex in a relationship, you would be able to decide whether you did or not.

Anti--you may be right in that virgins don't really know what they're doing...but that doesn't mean it's not going to be enjoyable, even the first time, even if there is pain--and there isn't always pain. Many girls break their hymens horseback riding, or dirt-biking, or even through all the fun stuff that goes on before actual intercourse.
I was 17 when I lost my virginity, and I felt a little pain, yeah. But I enjoyed myself immensely (and I presume he did too, since I've never had any complaints, even that first time) and went on to enjoy it whenever I could. I don't think this makes me a bad person, and I don't regret it at all. I'm happier for having done it and having enjoyed it, especially when I was told over and over that it would hurt and I wouldn't.Goddess of Chocolate Sauce

I've got a dollar on Chard lasting 1.5 seconds on his honeymoon.

Not even... the Vegas spread on that is 1.2 seconds. Personally, I'm still taking the under.

Wasn't Beethoven one of the greatest composers of all time, despite being deaf? Never having experienced something does not prevent you from being well-versed in it or knowledgable about it. Plus, said pope cites sexologists as sources. Besides, I'm hearing a bunch of virgins in this thread talking about what's necessary in a sexual relationship (on both sides of the debate, no less.)Originally posted by suicidalmuskratWhen I read this, something struck me as strange, but I wasn't able to put my finger on it until now. If I'm not mistaken, the Pope has to be unmarried, and celibate (sic). So why are you quoting him on this subject? It seems like being educated on sex by someone who has never had it is comparable to getting driving lessons from someone who's never been in a car.
BTW: Tass and Whorli, I love you both. : )Comment

Brilliant, you're right.
I'm not giving up my gift of virginity until I trade it in for a better gift. And that better gift only comes in the form of pure, true love and committment.Joy is not the absence of sorrow but the presence of God

Oh please. Virginity is not such a fucking precious thing that it's this wonderful "gift" you get to give someone. Love is a gift. Love is a wonderful thing. Virginity is a little flap of skin, or a hole that hasn't been poked yet (for us girls).
I don't get it. Is this an American thing, or a Christian thing, and that's why I don't understand? I'm Israeli, secular Jewish, you see, and I was never brought up to think that virginity is oh-so-special. I was told that if I enjoyed what I was doing and was careful about a) diseases and pregnancy and b) my feelings, then everything should end up just fine.
I am happy about when and where and with whom I lost my virginity. It made me realize how much I enjoy sex and how much I can make my partner enjoy it, and how it can be something meaningful and wonderful even though I've done it before with other people than him.
No one in my family waited for marriage before having sex. Two of my aunts were very promiscuous in their youth, my mom had several boyfriends, and my dad was a PIMP, yo. But seriously--they're all very happy years and years later, and so am I.
I'm not saying that everyone needs to go out and give it up to the first person they see. But it's not such a special precioussss thing that you need to give up all avenues of exploring of it. And if you're not ready to have sex, and want to keep your virginity for whatever reason, then for your own sake don't. But that also doesn't mean you have to give up everything ABOUT sex. For examples, I'll use Chardish and Q.
Neither one of them is ready to have sex. They each have excellent reasons all their own. But Chardish also denies himself the ability to find out what makes him happy in a purely physical way (ie masturbation, not necessarily experimentation with other actual people) and so is denying his future wife any help in HER finding out what makes him happy in the marital bed. Plus, as mentioned before, he's building up no tolerance whatsoever. 1.2 seconds, nip slip, whatever, he's DONE.
Q, on the other hand, has mentioned often that he's very very happy with his hand and porn, and doesn't need anything else. Unlike Chardish, when he finally decides he's ready for sex (if ever) he will have some idea of what gets him up, and might last almost 2 whole minutes like the average white(ish) male.
This has rambled enough. My points are this:
1) Virginity is not uber-special. Stop making yourselves sound like the Virgin Mary of the Future.
2) Masturbation is awesome.

This will all be clearly explained to my wife before I marry her. I don't think that a truly loving person would really care.Originally posted by whorlichanBut Chardish also denies himself the ability to find out what makes him happy in a purely physical way (ie masturbation, not necessarily experimentation with other actual people) and so is denying his future wife any help in HER finding out what makes him happy in the marital bed. I was, but I didn't pay heed. After it was too late was when I started to treasure it, by my own accord. It was when I started thinking about my future wife and marriage that I decided to hold off.Originally posted by whorlichanI was never brought up to think that virginity is oh-so-special.
This is EXACTLY what I'm trying to avoid with my kids. I know how important a role model parents can be, so I'll be sure to hammer in the importance of being abstinent.Originally posted by whorlichanNo one in my family waited for marriage before having sex. I went an hour and a half with no result :\ But, I really think the amount I masturbated has a big effect on that.Originally posted by whorlichanmight last almost 2 whole minutes like the average white(ish) male.

Oh, Chardish, just to nitpick, I would like to point out the Beethoven went deaf far after he began to compose. Indeed, he was practically dead at that point--and so he hammered the piano really loudly and cut off its legs and put it on the floor so he actually COULD hear the sounds as vibrations to compose his piece.
....But I digress. Majorly.
