Btw, the speed of the LCD2 is unreal; nearly everything is under 1ms:

The only dynamic driver that would come close to this would be probably a Qualia 010

There's nothing more to argue about in this thread.
Ohaider doesn't like the LCD2 for several reasons, Tyson ultima likes the LCD2 for several reasons. To each their own.
There's also the fact that Ohaider is more of a producer and Tyson ultima is more of a listener. One's keen on accurate reproduction and the other is keen on enjoyable listening.


Late in the thread but congrats on the M50 purchase, Psittacosis. It's the best feeling to experience something like that :'D


@Izzy: The HD280 is a fair competitor for the M50. M50 dominates the lower end, but the HD280 has an edge on the higher end.

Has anyone else tried the Sound Blaster Xf-i Crystalizer? I swear by it for sure. Without it sounds feel so dull, it's like a beautiful sharpening of the EQ that can't be done with an EQ, Idunno dood. But it sounds sharp as fuck, and really pulls out so much detail.

I forgot I had a Sound Blaster card so I tried the Crystalizer to hear what it sounds like (I usually use a separate external amp/dac). From what I hear, it seems like it's boosting the mid-bass and the mid-treble (without making it sibilant), which creates a V-shaped sound. Depending on the recording, it can make it sound really fun and energetic or it can make it sound a little overwhelming. In general, something that sounds 'sharp' or 'detailed' usually means the treble is accentuated in some way or another.

You seem to be judging Sennheiser as a whole which is fine but you aren't focusing on the headphones individually. The 650s are a good overall headphone with colored sound which is fine for some people. The hd800s in their own class are like the microscope of headphones while sounding very bright which is a con to some people. HOWEVER the LCD-2s have a nice extended bass with liquid mids. Sure the LCD3s aren't worth the thousand over LCD-2s BUT the LCD 2s are definitely not crappy in any way and Tyll (who is the owner of headphones.com) consider the LCD-3s his listening headphones and so do many other people on head-fi as well. So consider them in the same realm of listening experience they are both very end game headphones

And hell no. I barely play SM I use these mainly for intense music listening sessions which normally consists of listening to hours of trance music or anything else I can find in FLAC

It seems like the final audio quality can only be good as the worst part of the process. Whether that be hardware, speakers or the actual audio file.

Well to spend so much over headphones you have to be a true audiophile. Not to mention i trip at least twice a day in my headphones, having them fall on the ground... i'd be terrified to break something so goddamn expensive.

You basically answered your own question: your final audio quality depends on every piece of equipment it goes through. Similar to computer rigs, bottlenecks will occur if you don't plan out your equipment.
An on-board card will play music, but 1. it will not have enough current to drive headphones efficiently and 2. the components are of lesser quality, meaning more distortion, more compression, more noise, etc.
Generally, the effects of a bottleneck system are: the peaks (high end and low end) disappear or are veiled, the sound gets crunched (lacks air, timbre, soundstage, spacial positioning), the micro-details are gone, and the obvious drop in overall quality.

For a high-end headphone rig, you'll have to look at the following: source, interconnect, power supply, amp, dac, headphone cable, headphone.
...but for the general public, audio straight out of an ipod is good enough huehue.

I honestly don't see any issue spending some extra money on headphones, the money is more or less an investment for having better fidelity thus enabling you to enjoy music even more (I might not be a headphone enthusiast but I own a 5-digit $ system so I know fidelity and what difference it makes for music enjoyment)

I bought these purely for listening reasons, and my budget is low. I don't think I'd WANT super expensive headphones. Just because I don't see the point in it. These do the job. They do exactly what I want, for a much lower price than what has been suggested for the ~ultimate listening experience~. I have NO REASON for really expensive equipment.

But thanks for the recommendations for someone who obviously has a much larger disposable income.
