XVI's FFR GuidePosted on: July 7, 2008, at 03:07:09am [ 0 comments] First thing you're gonna want to do as a new player, is figure out what style of play fits you best. On the Genre/Song Selection screen, in the top right corner, you should see Settings and News buttons. What you should be looking for is the Settings. Once accessed, you'll see a variety of adjustable mods. On that prop-up page, locate "Key Configuration". This is where you can alter which keys act as your steps.
Put your hands on the keyboard, and see what feels more natural to you. Then play a quick and easy song, such as Power, which can be found on the first page of Dance.
One Handers:
As a one hander, i'd stick to the arrow keys. Unless WASD works better for you.
Two Handers:
As a two hander, your playing field is a little more open and not as crammed in as a one hander. There are a quite a few different styles for two handers, such as AS KL, SD JK, 12 34, Arrow Pad - and Spread Arrow Pads.
Two Handed Spread:
LEFT:Left Ring
DOWN: Left Index
UP: Right Index
RIGHT: Right Middle
After setting your finger style, it's time to pick a song - and to be honest, I find results to be much better if a new player starts off on a song that isn't "Easiest, For Beginners or Very Easy".

1. Power (DANCE - Page 1)
2. Cat Walk 2 (FUNK - Page 1)

Tips and Tricks:
#1: Visit http://www.stepmania.com/wiki/Downloads and download the program. Download songs and attempt those, when you return to FFR, you'll notice you have more control over your gameplay.
#2: When you are on your FFR Game Screen, scroll half of it up. This quickens your reaction to the notes, and some players claim to play better this way. This is also called "Screen Cutting".
#3: Practice, but don't over do it. Don't get stressed out if you can't do a song. Leave and try again later. Chances are you'll get it down.
#4: Do whatever it takes to hit the note, combo is a big part of your final score in FFR, regardless if you get a boo. Boo > Miss.
#5: Visit your level rank page to see what songs you can do to reduce your rank. See what songs you haven't done yet.
Feedback is appreciated - Happy Gaming.
