Because it would appear to be unbiased to some if staff members got prizes.
Seeing as how I was the one who basically brought the official tourneys to life, it would look a little strange to some if I was to take the first prize from one. Obviously there aren't ACTUALLY biases towards staff in the official tourneys, but it could look that way...no one has any way of knowing if I was allowed to practice the files ahead of time, told the scheduled song for each round, etc.
You'd find that it's this way for almost any competition with a prize--members or staff of the organization will almost always be barred from receiving the prize.
