FFRMas 2008 – Days 7 & 8!

Posted in FFR News, Game Announcements, Simfiles on December 21st, 200849 Comments »

I’ve been putting in way too many frequent flyer miles the past week.  I was on an airplane all day yesterday, quickly uploaded levels last night and went to bed.  Apparently there was an issue to Hey, Ladies…  but I fixed that up today.

Hey, Ladies is a MASSIVE Parental Advisory song.  It’s absolutely hilarious, but definitely NSFW!  A 6 in difficulty, it’ll be harder because of how much you’re laughing.  Of course, it’s a Futuristic Sex Robotz nerdcore song stepped by dore.  What else would it be?

I Hate The 80s is a massively overstepped, yet fun, song by Duran Duran Duran.  I’d like some input as to whether this is really high FMO or low FGO.  File is by bluguerrilla, but please don’t encourage him to make more charts like this.  :)   If nothing else, this song is another excuse to say Cock Rock Disco.

Brandish Headless is the first chart for today.  Those in the know will definitely recognize the song from SM.  Those not only need to know 3 simple things…  Shash file.  S.S.H. song (with Jun A.).  FMO.  Go go go!

Finally is Lady’s Cake by our own DarkbearX.  Fairly simple song that follows climax theory, making it a 7 difficulty overall.  Chart is by DarkbearX & HammyMcSquirrel.  DbX adds his name to the ever growing list of users with both a music producer and simfile author distinction.

FFRMas 2008 – Days 5 and 6!

I have a good reason for no story yesterday… I wanted to make sure the sync issues in Etude in E Major were fixed first. I took care of that earlier today, so voila.

Etude in E Major is a really simple file, a Classical FBO. Song is fairly well known, composed by Chopin. Stepfile by Xandertrax. Juxtaposed with that is Toxiferous Dystopia, which is a FMO song by DJ Cristo. It’s a pretty darn rough FMO. Stepfile by TC_Halogen.

Today’s 2 files are both on the harder end of the spectrum. Master Maid (which, I’ve been told, has no relation to I Am Maid apart from both being Sharpnel songs with “Maid” in the title) is a FMO Sharpnel file. Because of the name, I stuck it in Purchased… 2500 credits only. It’s pretty much what you’d expect out of a FMO Sharpnel file. Still fun to play though, so give props to kommisar[os]. Along with that is t+pazolite‘s easy-at-a-VC song Summer Time Perfume. Just like the name says, it’s a pretty fun and airy journey through 4 arrowdom. I’m not sure what bmah was thinking…. but the file has 1666 notes. Your guess is as good as mine.

Other news: I’m so swamped right now, plus traveling all day tomorrow, that I’m pushing back PSH3: Return of the Mannequin until the 1st weekend in January.

FFRMas 2008 – Day 4! 1st of 2s

I mentioned on Day 1 that only 2 users would have multiple files in this event… and it just so happens that both have files released today. Our lucky 2 are behanjc and Silvuh.

Moonlight River is a melodic piece by Ikodo Moonstrife that I’m sure you all will enjoy playing. The chart may remind you a bit of World of Dreams… it’s full of jumps. But not as long, not as hard, and 10bpm slower. A solid 6.

Fake Jazz is a pretty self explaining song title… although it sounds pretty similar to not-Fake Jazz. Lots of 24th stream to guitar and piano solos make this one heck of a fun VC chart to play. Oh yea… did I mention it was by S.S.H.?

FFRMas 2008 Day 3 – Long Post Is Long!

OK… so let’s make up for all the stuff I didn’t do the past few days:

Fei Longer is now synced. Difficulty is a low 10. Somehow, in the sync process, we lost 2 arrows… so I had to wipe a few scores. Sorry. Clear your cache to get the properly synced and correctly arrow’d version. If you like Star Salzman, check out his site and download his tunes. And yes hi19… the file is a jackdump.

The 2 files for today are Forgotten Planet by Rushjet1 and bmv.578 by OSTER Project. Forgotten Planet is far, far easier than most of the Rushjet you know, but it has that same 8-bit sound. This is Patashu’s first public release, although you can expect another of his files to hit the public in about 10 days. Expect many more good charts by him too! This one is only a Standard, a 5.

bmv.578 may sound slightly familiar to some people… it’s only 1 small letter off from what it’s based on, which is Bach’s Little Fugue in G Minor, aka BWV.578. To me, it’s a high FMO for the 5 repetitive jack sections, specifically the long up jacks. They sure give me fits. Regardless, the song is amazing and the chart is excellent. Props to dag12 for it. You should all play it now… there is nothing better than well stepped and synced classical charts.

FFRMas Day 2!

I’m leaving for the airport in about 20 minutes, so even shorter than yesterday…  I’ll fix the sync on Fei Longer when I get home tonight.  Today’s 2 songs are Felys by Onoken, stepped by Vote4Nixon and Snake Riddem by our very own championanwar, stepped by jokim.  I guess I lied yesterday…  and Felys is a purchased song (naturally), given that we already have a Felys remix in-game.  Snake Riddem is in Hip-Hop though.  Also, difficulties are probably wrong…  will fix tonight.

FFRMas 2008 – Day 1!

Sorry that this is so brief…  I’m in Philly with my family, flying back to LA tomorrow morning.  I’ll make sure to give a big story on Tuesday.

Today is the start of our 3rd annual FFRMas celebration…  12 days of publicly released FFR files!  This year is a year of diversity.  2 new levels each day.  That’s 24, for those who don’t want to do math.  Of those 24, we have 22 different artists…  and 24 different stepfilers (although 2 are collabs, so there are 2 users with repeat levels).

All levels will be at the end of Hip-Hop through the end of the event, then they’ll be moved to their proper locations.  Today’s songs are Fei Longer by Star Salzman, stepped by hi19hi19 and Night and Day by Virt, stepped by ElectricWerewolf.  Sadly, I won’t get to play either of these files until Tuesday…  so I can’t give you any reviews on them.  Also, the difficulties listed in-game will be wrong until I can play them and fix it.

But, I’m sure you all are just glad to get some levels…   not to mention darkshark’s MP contest running now through 11pm EST!!!  Maybe he’ll do something involving these new levels?  Who knows…

Tass note: Expect Photo Scavenger Hunt 3: Return of the Mannequin to take place the weekend before Christmas (the 19th-21st).  And, of course, we’ll be having a Christmas song event too.

{Big Boss}. Brackets Can Only Mean One Thing…

New cornandbeans! That’s right.  {Big Boss} sounds like it should be right out of Castlevania, but I’m pretty sure it’s straight from CnB’s big musical brain.  Stepfile is by the under appreciated and eccentric Vote4Nixon.  Currently in funk, but I’m sure jx will be moving it in the next 24-48 hours.  Also, *gasp*, it’s NOT a purchased song!  The song is short and sweet and Very Challenging.

Subbies get some Orange Dust in the form of Patashu‘s Dead and Direct.  It’s a low-mid FMO.

CRD + FFR = <3

Cock Rock Disco. If that name isn’t enough to get you interested then I don’t know what is.

Cock Rock Disco (CRD), the preeminent label based in Berlin, owned and operated by Jason Forrest, a.k.a. DJ Donna Summer, has recently given FFR permission to use any music published by CRD.

The first song to make it in the game, “Counter Clockwise Chant Pattern” by Terminal 11, is just the beginning of high-energy/breakcore/sexy that is the music released through CRD.

It will challenge your mind, break you down, kick you and then pick you back up leaving you different than you once were.

Anyhoot, yes, I did just use that word. Just like I’m stretching this out much longer than I need to because CRD, Cock Rock Disco, should be featured on this site more than it is. That means that if you are willing and able, grab some of their music and step it for the game, or see here for more links and which artists CRD represents, et cetera. But yeah, along with just stretching this out, I’m going to repeat their name a few mores times because I really like them that much.

Yes, every one of those is a separate link, all going to the same place, or are they? The answer, yes, they do all go to the same place. Cock Rock Disco. That one also goes to the same place.

Also, make sure to check out their site, www.CockRockDisco.com, for free music, news about new releases, forums, free music and more free music.

Thanks for your attention,
