Sorry for the nice long delay in the change of events, but I came down with some form of a flu bug over the weekend, but I have now recovered. So I present to you all the Final round of the Second House's Arcade Madness 2 Tournament. Once again I would just like to thank everyone for participating in this tournament. I tried to get some good games going, which I think I did pretty good for the most part, but if I ever do another tournament like this, I'll pay close attention to games on the web.

I would like to congratulate Commandersa1, Tasselfoot, and Gun92 on making it into the Semi-Finals. Unfortunately one of you is gonig to have to go, and in seems as though Gun threw in the white flag, so I will now present him with thrid place, so good job on that. As for Commander and Tass, you guys will have quite the competition on your hands now. Thank tizzy for this one, because he notified of this awsome game at the last minute. The point of this game is more or less don't die, and might I add at specific parts of this game it does become rather hard not to do so. The point of the game is to shoot the balls coming at your turret back up into the air, but be careful use to many bullets at once and you will run clean out of ammo and shooting power. You'll also notice that there is no score. This is true. You do not get scored until the very end of the tournament, and it is based upon how many seconds you lived for. So if you got the nuts, see if you can survive. Keep posting and I'll keep updating, that way any spectators can see what's going on.

Procedures
-This tournament will be in FFA format. There will be 8 Rounds, each lasting 3 Days

-Once the game is posted, you are to play the game and try to get the highest score/lowest time possible

-When you think you have a score you want to submit, take a screenshot of it and post it in the appropriate thread or send it via PM to me. Here are the steps for taking a screenshot:
1. Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard. IF you're using a Mac, I believe the input is Command+Shift+3. The command button is the apple
2. Go into Paint (Start>Programs>Accessories) or another imaging program and hit Ctrl+V
3. Save the SS on your computer
4. Go to an image hosting site, such as Photobucket, ImageShack, or Xs.to (my favorite; it saves picture info without you having to sign-up) and upload the SS.
5. Post the image in this thread or send it to either of us

-As always, you can submit as many SS's as you want, but we will accept the last one as your Round score. If it's accidentally worse than before, you better fix it fast!

-If, for some reason, two people are EXACLTY tied, and the Round ends, their scores will be wiped and they will get 1 extra day to submit another score. If they are tied again, both will advance by default.

Ah, yes. The juicy underbelly of tournaments... the Prize Fund, will consist of a start lot of 35,000 credits, of which is divided up below.

Mark. I know you're wanting to be having a successful return to FFR here, but please stop making numerous tournaments. Make one tournament and make that one succesfull rather than managing your efforts into 3-4 all at the same time. Also, this splits the prize pot and makes it less appealing to players wanting to sign up for the tournament when all they can win is no more than pocket credits.

I didn't mean to be too critical about it but concentrate on one tournament and make it successful and take your extra time to actually enjoy playing FFR and get better or else Spain will lose. :)

Not everyone participates in tournaments for credits. I personally enter for the competition and to test how good I am against others near my skill level. The credits are a mere bonus, that and I never quite finish well enough to earn credits, but tournaments aren't really about credits, at least to me that is. I'm enjoying myself in this tournament, even though I'm stuck against on of the most kick ass flash players, I don't care, its fun, thanks for running this :D

this was 1st attempt... so had multiple -500 on a bunch of levels to figure out how to do them.

concept isn't that original... game isn't halfway bad, except that the hit detection between objects and the gold balls is AWFUL. trying to speedrun through levels is basically impossible, because the movements of the objects are fluid instead of block by block. so you have to be much farther away from the gold balls than you'd think you do, otherwise you explode. really really frustrating, and quite poor on the developers part.

that's the reason i didn't play through it a 2nd time for a much much higher score. too annoying to deal with the hit detection. not a single other game i've played with this concept (a few of them are miniclip games, even... acno's energizer comes to mind) have had hit detection like this. all the rest make speedrunning much easier, and about doing the level perfectly, not having to overtime your movements to ensure you don't partially clip a gold ball.

i am an honest critic. i'll tell you exactly what i think about something. it's quite possible that we just have absolutely opposite opinions on what a good flash game is. but to me, it seems like you don't put that much effort into picking your games. you don't think about choosing games that people will enjoy playing/whoring, attempting to better their scores. or checking the games to see if they're fun and unique or just another attempt at a rather old game concept.

to me, the perfect game selections will be games that most people have never played before and yet will look forward to playing. then once they play them, they'll want to keep playing it (at least a few times) to try and improve. curveball is ok, i guess, it's just a REALLY old game, so it isn't original. round 2... had terrible hit detection, making speedrunning for a better score extremely frustrating to the point of not wanting to try. and this round... it's just another take on Bust-A-Move.

I happen to really like curveball... it is just too unoriginal for a tournament like this (plus you used it in your last tournament). Round 2... i really like games like that. I enjoy the Acno games, Chip's Challenge, and other speed-based puzzle platformers... but the hit detection on that game was AWFUL, which completely killed my ability to enjoy it. And I really do not like B-A-M games... not completely sure why, but probably for the same reason that I don't like Bejeweled or Mahjong games... there are TOO MANY clones of them, they're all the same, and they're very very mindless.

I also didn't really have enough time to properly run it, but the lack of participation killed my motivation. Rubix also tried running his 2nd Omnipwn around the same time, and canned it for lack of participation as well.

Armorgames usually has a decent selection. Kongregate as well, and Newgrounds. You'll find tons of interesting games at those sites.

IMO the key is to pick new games that people may have not played before that are, at the same time, decent and challenging. If you choose to pick old games, then at least pick ones that have some rave value to them (e.g. Chip's Challenge, or any other game that many people have played and loved over the years). Mindless games or games with a ton of repetition aren't very fun and don't really provide incentive for competing hardcore-style. Also, try to steer clear of games that have clunky controls or hit detection. Not being able to finish a game because of a glitch or crappy movement scheme is maddening. Stick to higher quality stuff.

I tried to pick really good games for my first Omnipwn tournament. Check that out if you want an idea of how I hosted it. My second tournament had limited participation and I wasn't as excited about it, and as a result, my game selection was very half-assed and apathetic, as I didn't take the time to choose interesting games like I did beforehand. Of course, I'm merely speaking for myself here, but I think a lot of people had fun in the tournament and enjoyed the game selection in the first Omnipwn tournament (at least from what I see -- if anyone disagrees, please let me know, lol).

If there's anything I learned from hosting a tournament, it's that you really have to be active and excited about it. You have to update often, and you have to put some decent effort into looking for interesting games that you yourself would love to play and whore out in a competition. If any of those factors is at a low, then the tournament tends to lull and fall apart.

On that note, I hope to have more time this summer to really run a decent tournament. It takes a lot of time, imo.

Tass, when you get to the end of a level, like one ball left. Start building off that one ball to make a lot of balls. Then once you destroy that one ball, you will get a big bonus. One bonus I got was 102,000.

it's a decent game.... i still find it low on replayability because of how repetitive the gameplay is. yes, it gets harder... but it reminds me of a circular shooting game i once played on superdudes.net back in the day. better than your previous picks... could still be better still, IMO.

i'm not a huge fan of Coolio-Niato's games or graphics. They look snazzy upon initial glance, but they generally lack substance as you did deeper. Like most attractive women I've known.

Sorry I haven't been updating, been fairly busy, I'm designing a new tournament/league, I haven't decided yet but it's taking me forever, I have the concept down, I just can't get the utility. I think if your constantly moving, he doesn't touch you. You stand on a wire for too long and he attacks you.

well I actually found out that by pressing the up arrow, you can jump over birds, and also when the grasshopper or whatever grabs you, press up as fast as you can he'll let you go, but do it before you hit a bird.

Commander: there are very few good games that I have not whored. just a big FYI. and you realize... it would be really really simple for me to re-platinum everything. i mean, it would take an hour or two, but it would just all be grunt work... no extra skill, no strategizing, nada.

also... this might not be the best game either. what criteria are you using? least moves to complete? fastest to complete? i assume commander and gun will both finish....

not to mention, there is a level select feature to this game. clearly if they skip right to 33 and beat the 1 level in 100 moves and 5 minutes, we'll know they didn't play 1-33, but what is to prevent someone from starting at level 15? or something...

whatever. another game i've beaten previously. *shrugs*.

and, really, that score isn't that impressive. that game is repetitive and simple and just long. it's boring. i played it once in december... got 600+ for the hard badge. played it twice this week... 1st was low 700s, 2nd was this score. would have improved it more... but 15 minutes per boring run just isn't fun, and Commander basically threw in the towel.
