I bring it up to like everybody, lmao. Usually people are pretty interested, and while I did get some flak from my high school friends for it originally, they've all shut up now that they've realized what good finger skills can do.
All that aside, I'm really open about it, and if people want to know more, I'll show them. If people want to hate, it's whatever. I enjoy what I do and I'm not going to let someone else's opinion affect that.

When I was younger I used to openly showcase my abilities but I've since then stopped doing that because no one has questions other than "I bet you memorized all the notes" or "He must be Korean he does nothing at home but play this game". During that time, I've even had self-righteous people come forward and say that they can do that eZ, so I give them the controls and they start getting a new asshole ripped just for them.
Nowadays, I play it on my spare time or when something comes up in the community such as a tournament or an event. I don't go to school much anymore so I don't get any of those remarks, but I do get a lot of negative feedback & butchering from my family about it because they don't like the excessively loud key taps. I even tried to coax them into it by saying the last tournament I did had real money at stake, and they just sort of turned the other cheek about it. Only other person I can think of that knows about my fiffering is Lambdadelta because I actually met up with him. tl;dr some people at school & my family knows about it. My family knows all about FFR at this point. Only a couple of my friends from high school know about FFR and do have accounts on here. Told none of my college/uni friends.

I never mention it to anyone but my girlfriend (who I mention it to a lot; we both have internet forums we go on. she goes on this place called I think wattpad and we exchange stories about the communities there)
however, I will mention in conversation if it's conversationally relevant, such as if we're talking about nerdy habits we have or games we play usually this never comes up though, so when people see me play DDR/FFR or some other rhythm game the reaction is "HOLY SHIT ALFRED HOW ARE YOU SO GOOD AT THIS GAME, I NEVER KNEW" Last edited by Arch0wl; 02-1-2015 at 05:48 PM.. This video is almost 3 years old wow. Since I got along with my teachers well in high school they would sometimes allow me to play FFR (and in this vid it was the last day for Seniors, it was a goodbye gift and the spanish teacher was retiring that year).
Some of them did try it out and anyone who passed an easy song I basically got super hyped and so did other people around haha. It's amusing when someone tries the game, gets half or more misses, and if they barely pass everyone goes crazy. |

I play at uni a little. Mostly just lurk the forums. But only a song here or there since after 2 minutes of key-smashing, I usually have the classrooms attention and start getting self-conscious. 99% of my fiffering is done at home. And after a number of years of it, my family still doesn't understand that there isn't a pause button for this game.

Playing this shit in 8th grade, people gave shits when I SDG'd Tambourin Chinois or mashed Dossar's Balloon Fight (internet filters meant I was and still am limited to lightdarkness and other alternative engines)
Now, in 11th grade, people have the exact same reaction when I SDG DeVouR or Dossar's 5.1.1 edit. They have the exact same reactions actually. I don't think they can tell the difference. On another note, they have the same reactions when I'm on a pad and pass Paranoia Survivor, or I pass the Tachyon version of The Man Crossing The Channel. I'm not even good at ITG tho (my FA is worthy of tears) so this is far less bewildering.

I remember indexing in high school and I would be able to FFR during class if I had gotten my homework done. Teacher watches me and asks me how in the world I do that. Sometimes on a library day I'd play in front of people around me and I'd not get in trouble because it was considered a "talent." I declined a talent show appearance because I felt like it wasn't a talent and that ANYBODY could be better than me.
College wise, nobody cares. |

You guys make me feel old... I remember a bunch of us playing this in high school ~10 years ago, in our HTML/C++ classes.
We all were terrible(I still am, just a little less), smashing the shit out of the keyboard just to see who could get the best score on "flight of the bumblebee." Our teacher warned us to stop, one day we walked into class and all the PCs were locked down. She got the IT guys to put "Vision" on them and put an end to it. She then proceeded to say, "If you snooze you lose your internet." Lets just say, she opened a can of worms with that phrase and the less respectful kids busted her chops the rest of the year. Had her in tears once or twice too. College, I had a roommate that played guitar hero and when I broke out the fiffer one day, it blew his mind. Nowadays, its just whatever I guess. But who cares, I play what I like. Sorry for the text wall XD |

My family know about the game, but have no idea what it's called. They've seen me play DDR, ITG, Stepmania, and FFR (no piu). Since there are so many different variations of the game, all they call it is "the game with arrows." I think now since I'm older, it's easier to keep the secret to myself.

I see no reason to be secretive about it, so anyone who knows me well also knows that I'm a nerd and I play weird games. I don't see playing rhythm games as anything to be ashamed of. If it would come up in conversation, I'd gladly tell my promotor, colleagues or anyone else. Of course, I'd tell them I just casually play it every now and then, because I have better things to do ;P
