I would choose Forgotten Realms because people tend to be acquaintened with that already;
it is the game universe for games like Baldur's gate and Planescape: Torment.

Cool. I'm fine with waiting a month, you would be a way better DM then i could ever be. If someone else steps up for now, i guess we will take that into consideration? I don't know, im kinda up in the air about it.

But yeah, do we wanna use roll20? do we wanna use slack? I know fictions vote, but what does everyone else think?

Take whoever else who wants to do it, and play some games.

Anyone who already roughly knows how to play could be a DM,
although a prospective DM needs to grasp the rules firmly, and have read the DM's handbook for a good experience:

Read at least the first few pages to at least know what you need to pay attention to as DM.
The book is a comprehensive compendium of tips for universe creation, on-the-spot writing, and balancing.

You could also simply get together and play using simplified homebrew rules,
although what's in the DM's handbook still mostly applies, even if you are not playing actual D&D.

I think I would prefer roll20, because that would allow you to import assets from say RPG Maker.
It would enable you to create a map in a few minutes if on occasion the group does something extremely unexpected.
