I've had this happen to me. Are you by chance trying to open up the gif that FFR makes out of every avatar? Open in paint, re-save it, and then Photoshop can parse it.

First time I've had that issue Charu, normally it takes .gifs just fine even straight from FFR. I'll give it a shot.

This is all new stuff to me, just experimenting as I go along. I saved the raw PSD if you want me to adjust the hat, not used to putting hats on pokemon lol.

Had to cheat a bit because of the size, 128 colors instead of 256, a bit faster and less fluid. (500 001 octets but you should be able to upload it)
