Like the title says, I'm in need of some new headphones. Preferably over-ear. I'm a little low on cash right now, so I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck.
Do any of you have any good suggestions? I've been looking around and seen a few that keep cropping up as good-for-you-money decisions, such as: Sennheiser HD-280 Pro - http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/s...-30235462.html Grado SR60i - http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/g...-33801804.html Sony MDR-XB500 - http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/s...-33577185.html I've also looked at the Skullcandy Crushers. yeah, I know they're Skullcandy and probably not worth my money, but. Still. So, yeah. Any suggestions? |

People are gonna HATE me for posting this, buuuut I have been happy with these:
Bose I'd say go for those. EDIT: After looking at the three you posted, I feel like in the end its a matter of personal preference. For 100(ish) dollars you are going to get the same-ish quality.

ATH-m50
Hands down the best headphones for the money. Look into em, only around $120 and AWESOME sounding. With a good sound card, you will get a shiver when listening to flacs with these babez I've got a "crystalizer" Sound Blaster XFI card.Best headphones I've used for the money~ only reason the bose $700 ones were much better is because there was a slightly more sharpened, broader spectrum of frequencies in focus cleanly. You get a very good quality nonetheless with the m50s, I feel like i'm hearing guitar get played live with em. High freqs are so prickly~ These ones are $121 w/ free shipping. : >

To sum up the 3 headphones that you posted really briefly (in my opinion):
HD280 - Pros: Sturdy, good isolation Cons: Lacks bass punch, sounds 'crunched' SR60 - Pros: Very engaging, forward mids, comfortable Cons: Not neutral at all, slightly lacks bass quantity XB500 - Pros: Heavy bass (Could be a con), super comfy Cons: Muffled/muddy, V-shape frequency response One commonly recommended headphone for that price range is the Audio Technica ATH-M50. Have a look at those too. Edit: Please don't get Bose... |

Yeah, I looked into the M50's. They actually looked really nice. I'll definitely have to give those a look again.
EDIT: What's the difference between the M50's and the M30's or M35's? I assuming there's definitely a sound difference, but how big of one? Last edited by Psittacosis; 05-26-2013 at 07:30 PM.. |

In short, it is worth the price difference in almost every aspect: detail, soundstage, timbre, FR, etc. How big of a difference depends on how good your ears are huehue |

A more extreme case of this is Beats (I'm not going to go into detail with this, but you get the idea). BUT Bose's noise-cancelling functionality is second to none. They really know how to make them work. |

I use Beats By Dre Studio Headphones. They're alright. They're good for standard use (listening to music and playing games). One major downfall is they're more expensive than than what they should really be worth. Another downfall is they use two AAA batteries that drain within less than a week because of how much they would get used (and also what if you leave the headphones turned on by accident, then you're just wasting the battery). Oh well, I got them as a Christmas gift a couple years ago and they lasted me, so I can't complain that much, I guess.

I've actually heard really bad things about the Beats. I didn't even consider those because of what I've heard and they're out of my price range.

are you trying to keep it under $100? if so, i've heard good things about the grados SR60i. maybe try those out. if you're willing to spend more, i'd also have to recommend the m50's. i just picked up a pair myself and i love them. found some on amazon for $109 with free shipping

Beats / Soul / anything endorsed by a hip-hop mogul = SHIT.
I'd go for the Grado SR60i, probably the best out of the 3 you posted. Or you could go for these: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-HDJ-50.../dp/B0047QTLVC I'm a bit partial to Pioneer because I have all Pioneer audio in my car and it sounds awesome. :P

Audio Technica ATH-M50s, like Spenner said
perfectly flat frequency response for cheap literally the respected studio monitor headphones in 90% of all studios in America. Perfect sound, durable, slick design, coiled wire to keep from rolling a computer chair over it etc Edit: If not the audio technicas, still avoid sony at all costs

I have ATH-m50's and I 100% agree with this. Seriously, these things are amazing quality for their price. The only minor complaint I might have is that they can feel a bit squeezy on your head after a couple of hours, but that's most likely because I'm used to my Sennheiser HD-515's that rest on my head with comfortable padding. I forget they're there sometimes.

That's pretty much the only complaints I've heard about them too-- or to someone who thinks "the bass isn't punchy enough" that hasn't bothered to play with their computer's EQ.
The tightness gets worked in after awhile, and if it's starting to become bothersome just pushing in around the foam on the ear cups until it softens (brand new they can be a little stiff).
