    Gimmie A Book List

For me, a visit to Half-Price Books is very rare and very eventful. I want to stock up on LOTS of books to last me a long time. Like, months worth.

Assume I have read nothing. I want a list of every single thing you can advise I get.

The Brothers Karamazov - Fyodor Dostoyevsky (I have yet to finish it but it's good so far)
Welcome To The Ivory Tower Of Babel - Mike Adams

        Emporor -
        Gates of Rome
        Death of Kings
        <whatever the 3rd one is called>

I took out the second one from the library when I went to Mexico on vacation (unknowing it was the middle of a 3 part series). Very good book, extremely well written and not easy to put down.

        Historical fiction/fact on Julius Ceaser.

The Narnia Chronicles (Chardish mentioned one of them) is good, but it's stocked full of hidden religous agendas. Hell, I'm aetheist and even I caught the symbols.

          You should also pick up:
          The Jungle - Upton Sinclair
          Animal Farm - George Orwell
As many Redwall series books as you can find, I LOVED these back in middle school when I read all that were available to me.
The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien
          Slaughterhouse 5 - Kurt Vonnegut

            Speaker for the Dead
            Xenocide

Card whored out another book after Puppets, but don't even bother. It's over at Puppets.

Squeek: AGREED. I've read easily almost 2 dozen of Card's books, they're great. Including all the ones you listed above.

You noticed I only listed the first books of series. The way I see it, if he likes them, he'll go on.

(NOTE: I know that The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is the 2nd chronologically, not the first. But it is also the best introduction to the world of Narnia. I need to go reread those books. They're good.)

Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code - Dan Brown
The Harry Potter Series J.K. Rowling
                The Martian Chronicles Ray Bradbury
                Holes Louis Sachar.
Karl Marx: Selected Writings in Sociology and Social Philosophy Karl Marx (Foreword by Erich Fromm)

These are the few books that have kept my attention long enough to finish. I have been meaning to read the Bible for quite some time...but I've miss placed my copy at the moment.

                  Shadows by John Saul.

That's about the best in fiction I can give you.

So, I guess you all forgot about Catcher in the Rye.

Also, do not get the LOTR books. They are all extremely boring and overpriced, with the exception of The Hobbit.

Meh. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.

By the way, The Great Gatsby is probably the worst book I've ever read. God damn, I hate that book.

Oh, if you happen to like Victorian writers (whom I love, but not everyone shares this sentiment), check out Jane Eyre by Emily Brontë and Wuthering Heights by Charlotte Brontë. Damn fine stories chock full of beautiful language if you ask me.

Chardish... New Testiment? I think I laughed for about 3 minutes at that. You just slipped it in and no one mentioned it. You bad bad Christian boy, you.

And, Omega... all the books listed are pretty well known. Are you interested at all in Action books? Like, books that have a main kick-ass character who goes around and kicks lots of ass, usually solving some crime/mystery in the process? If so, let me know... that is about all I read, and have MANY excellent authors.

                            How could I have forgotten:
The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy - Douglas Adams

Shadow Puppets is 3rd in the Bean spinoff series of Ender books. Shadow of the Giant is 4th.

P.S. Tass, the New Testament is really, really good - even for non-Christians. There's a reason I recommended it specifically for general readers instead of just "The Bible."
