You all realize that Danny Elfman doesn't really compose music anymore? He just hits a button on his computer labled "GENERIC DANNY ELFMAN SONG (Press twice to be nominated for best score Oscar)"? He's becoming somewhat of a hack... Although, he can still sing really really well.

I'm double posting and BUMPING this topic because I just got back from it, and it was truly and utterly disappointing.

Maybe he's just losing his touch, but the movie was so simple... Not lasting for more than an hour and a quarter, but it dragged on... So many unneccessary parts.

I just felt like the movie was to showcase this new expierimental type of animation, and that since it's a hit, maybe they'll make a real movie out of it, instead of this hollow shell of a film.

GOD, it was so simple. And the Corpse Bride wasn't even happy at the end. I mean, had I had control of the script, I would have given Depp's character a male friend to have slain at the sword duel at the end, so when Emily goes back to the land of the dead, she could have someone too. Not just BURSTING INTO BUTTERFLIES?!?? WHAT?!?!

And also, why did Bartis (Bartin, whatever) drink the poison? That was so contrived. Very rarely, when I go to crash wedding ceremonies and try to kill both the Groom AND my ex-wife do I leave by drinking their wine and making a stupid toast. Goddamnit, that part was just mind-numbing.

Ha, not a studen, just a resident of NY. 10.75, dammit! It wasn't a complete waste. The animation was nifty. That is all.

Besides, as a kid, my mom would always tell me not to touch the stove because it was hot. So, I touched the stove. It was hot. I'm one of those people who just has to find out about things for themselves.

Okay I saw it and I thought it was pretty cute, basically I agree with what Whorli said. I was kind of let down with the lack of interesting events throughout the movie but overall it was...uh..cute.

Hmm, Upstate NY is 9.50 for everyone, - kids(1-12) and seniors(65+). I really don't feel like seeing this, as I never saw Nightmare before Christmas, which seems like the reason you all are going to watch it. I know it isn't a sequel, it looks boring.

I laughed when Mal called it a "new" type of animation. That is just ignorant.

Stop motion has been around since the 30s. King Kong, anyone?

Anyway, this movie is wonderful. The animation is the most amazing thing I've ever seen.

How they did it:
1. Make small figurines of characters
2. Take a picture of them
3. Move them an incredibly small amount of space
4. Take another picture
5. Repeat forever
6. Stick all the pictures together so they look like they're moving

I believe they made at most a few seconds per day of film. You must appreciate this movie for doing that, if nothing else. Not to mention that this is lightyears ahead of anything else ever done with stop motion (including Nightmare Before Christmas). It's mind boggling. This is also why it is so short; making it any longer would have been incredibly taxing. Also, the sheer fluidity of it all is just amazing. If you've seen King Kong, you know how primitive stop motion was back then. It looked really jerky. This is the exact same technique used all the way back then, only with computer-aided camera work, as the shots would be impossible otherwise.

Oh, if you look carefully, you can notice that the piano at the beginning says "Harryhausen" on it. Great tribute.

I enjoyed the movie itself as well. All of Tim Burton's work is great. It was rather simple, but it didn't need to be anything more.

If you don't appreciate the animation, there's something wrong with you.

Yes, well, it's a new type of stop motion. I mean, you hardly compare Jason and the Argonauts to The Corpse Bride.

All of the commercials showcased how they were doing something different with the animation style, less the plot. None of the pre-release commercials showed anything pertaining to the plot; all the showed was the animation "Gurus" just doing their thing.

Which is good, because the plot, like I said, is paper thin. Not all of Tim Burton's work is great; all of it is stylistically... Well, Tim Burton. That doesn't automatically make it good. Look at Planet of the Apes, or Batman Returns (I liked Returns but it was weaker than the original). It is possible for him to make a less than incredible movie, which he has done in this case.

If you think about it, this movie really is like gold-plated shit. Sure, it's gold-plated and pretty to look at, but on the inside, it still shit. This example is kind of harsh, but it proves my point.

The animation was awesome. The pastel colors, the soft haze that surronded everything...very atmospheric. But the plot, though not entirely a bad idea, lacked any entertainment value. The songs were boring and felt entirely random. The characters were whack and I felt no attatchment to any of them so the finale had no effect on me.

The movie doesnt feel as though Tim Burton spent a lot of time with it. Like Mal said, it feels as though it were a film based solely around the animation. In that case, Tim Burton would have faired better releasing it as a web-mini series for free. Nobody can feel ripped off if it's for free.

Sure ya can Jewp... I still want my 75 minutes back... I at least can feel like I paid to see Lord of War and therefore saw Corpse Bride for free.
