and smashman, i like the way you described everything. genius. i myself play indexed AND 3 fingered (as you described) depends on the song on playing. And you're right about crossovers when playing indexed...they're a bitch. I can't get 4 fingers down, my brain just doesnt process them right. Ive been playing indexed/3 fingeres for about a year and a half and its almost impossible to get used to another setting: 4 fingers. but i really need to learn it to get better. Anyway, i like this. good job.

Switching to 4-Finger won't make you better, it will make you a different kind of good. You play Index so you probably have a few AAAs under your belt but you want to be able to say you can pass some of the really hard stuff. Am I right?

If this is the case then don't worry about it. You are an Indexer so focus on what you are good at and the things you aren't will come naturally to you. Keep playing for accuracy and your speed will catch up eventually.

You should add a list of famous indexers, famous spreaders, famous 3 fingers, etc... You know, to add some info and to give n00bs an opportunity to see who they wanna be like.

Asking for it to get stickied probably won't get it stickied. The content, however, will. It's good, and shows the strengths and weaknesses to all known types of play styles which can be added if more are invented.

Would you mind giving an example of a song where certain patterns are used? I know the cross overs exist, I just don't think I've seen them.

Well, if you play 4-Finger you probably wont notice crossovers. Also they are not very popular because Indexers don't like them.

Just try out the pattern on the keyboard if you need to see what it's like.

I've been doing one hand three fingers since I started FFR... unfortunately, I never thought about other ways to do it, and now I'm comfortable with it and can't do other ways.
I love stream with all my heart, and have never had a problem with it.

Well, you have to decide if you've made enough progress with one hand so that it would take you too long to regain the same level of skill if you were to switch to a different style or if you think you can switch in time so that you can exceed farthur in skill than you are right now with your current style.

Well I haven't read much of this except for the first "intro"-post. I'll just say that I play 4 fingers and there has never been a ladder that I haven't gotten past. I don't switch over to using my index fingers because usually theres a steam of left to rights and rights to left. The other times I use anything different is when I know that there are some jumps coming up but not to fast and I'll switch over to index fingers just to ease the others. I'll switch over to 2 hands and 2 fingers only when it a stream of jackhammering along with scattered steps in between. Example: Arch0wl's Absolute (Guitar Remix) at the beginning. When its a jackhammering with the left using my left index to hit those, and I use my right index for the other steps. Also with the cross overs, if there's nothing after or before them with a patren of 134213421342... I just do that one handed. In Tourgen 0 and Uber Rave with some of the gallops I just use index.

I just say this because right now I have nothing to do and don't want to start something with this. Just letting you all know whats up with my style.

There are crossovers in quaser (everyone must have heard of that..), I can't think of any in FFR off the top of my head though.

I've always played index...and I can agree with everything you've said. I did recently experiment with playing index spread, lol. I just set up 2 playfields (I used 1235 for the other), and put one index finger on each one. Playing like this felt generally the same, but you could do crosses with out having to cross, or double "tap".

I also generally read this out of boredom...but I guess I learned that 4 finger actually has its disadvantages...and that all 1 handed players deserve some credit. Twas a good summary.
