^There's a 9 minute video of him explaining integration by parts all by himself, you probably couldn't even do that.

I don't really know what to say. Good for him I guess.

Then again ageism is just something that's really amused me considering things like this. I have massive respect for Jacob - he has a lot of potential to make the world better, but then again you have those other stories like of Chris McCandless.

I think the absolute best part of this kid is he doesn't have a prick attitude. We see this far too commonly, whether in life or on forums. There are people who know they're good, and stay humble. And there are people who know they're good and put in people's faces excessively. The fact he is so down to earth (probably because his age, teenage years are horrible) is awesome. I could tell by his behavior, and if you watch 7:41 to 7:51 you'll see his casual self shine a little bit. He's definitely a remarkably smart 12 year old, but he's still a kid. I hope that all this attention doesn't get to his head as he gets older, because this world could use more people like him. Smart, practical, and down to earth. I hope he stays like that, and good luck to him.

Quite my thoughts and the reason why I didn't post anything.

Also, times are different. Comparing someone's intelligence to a 50+ year old intelligence is quite outdated. At Einstein's time, he was practically the smartest person in the world. From what he's discovered, it has lead to other people use what he does to become smarter or take his work further. Also, over the years, things have been simplified and much easier to understand or find out.

Example: Einstein created the theory of relativity yet it wasn't understood for a couple years simply because people couldn't grasp the concept. Now, people just take it for what it is and more people understand the concept. As time went on, people got smarter which sprouts from the past.

Even then, how can you compare intelligence to people that created math, physics, science, etc.? Shouldn't they be the most intelligent ones since they inspired the next genius to make a breakthrough?

                  Logical Fallacy.

That is goddamn amazing. I'm 19 and I struggled like hell through Advanced Algebra in high school, scraped by with a C.

Though... a pro-tip to OP, usually ATS is not a good place for a news reference. This one was different because they referenced a legitimate news site.

I'm not entirely sure about this kid being a "genius" and all. Prodigy, yeah. Genius? Who knows. I was a prodigy to an extent. When I was a certain age I had contemplated complex thoughts that most people would still find confusing even now, which mainly concerns existential stuff that I'm still not very comfortable explaining. However, I don't feel like I've become much smarter since then so I'm kind of not that smart... oh well. He has potential, but he might run into a block like I had, and yeah...

Certain age as in about 9 or 10.

Impressive, always awesome to see people with brains that think in this way.

We still have yet to see if he is smarter than Einstein, your IQ is one thing, but intelligence is another! Looks like he is doing the right things with it though!

The point of IQ is to try to measure your intelligence. I don't know anything about how well it achieves that though.

Well, that is the point of it, but it more of tests your logic and ability to solve problems (at the exact moment of taking that test anyway).

How you apply it and the knowledge you acquire are not measured by IQ and are equal components in intelligence (at least in my opinion).
