Re: [News]US and British forces have fired at least 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles at l

your logic isn't too hard to comprehend, its just ignorant and biased. Which is why I don't agree with it. Mexico has nothing to do with the dicsussion so why bring it up? same for Iraq. So if anyones posting irrelevant crap, its you. Because what I posted had to do with the topic at hand. The people of libya are asking for our help if you didn't notice. Which is why we are there, did you ever think of that? If they didn't want our help and we gave it to them anyway, don't you think there would be consequences, yes.

And nobody but you said libya is more important than other countries around the world. But as of right now Libya is a lot higher up on the list. ANd if mexico's violence was as bad as you make it seem, then it would be on the news headlines right? but it's not, which is why it's not as big of a deal as of right now. And also, mexico isn't a 3rd world country now is it? And it is also, not in the middle east.

So if the U.S helping Libya is such a big problem, then bring it up with someone who cares, because quite frankly, I doubt anywhere does. Because so far nobody shares your opinion. Im sure the majority of people who have visited this thread are happy to see the people of Libya getting the help they need.
So go cry about how bad the U.S.A is somewhere else. Which honestly, is pretty hypocritical coming from someone who lives in the u.s

It's a reasonably smart decision politically in the sense that the UN forces are standing with a popular movement and against a tyrant that is incontrovertibly and openly killing his own people. If we (from an American perspective) don't help here then there is a good chance many people in the region would think: "In 2003, the Americans bombed the **** out of Iraq because they thought they needed to for some reason. But when the Libyans needed help overthrowing their tyrannical government and had a movement of the people to do so, the Americans didn't do anything. So the Americans only want to help democracy if it suits their agenda and self-interests, rather than that of the people."

Granted, people are still going to think that regardless of what we do from now on because of Iraq, but if we can help a democratic movement started by the people of the country, I think it will be more effective (in a hearts-and-minds way) for improving our image over there. It's also smart that we're just bombing them instead of using ground troops and all that, because we can just pummel the military and then not worry about doing the dirty work, which is what got us in trouble in Iraq.

          well it's still in development.

Regardless of who criticizes who for doing something, I'd rather something be done about an evil tyrant even if it is the United States. If Stephen Harper started killing random people and publicly admitted to it, I'd sure as hell hope someone came in to help.

Edited post lol, I would have agreed to what you say now, that it isn't a third world and that it's a developing nation, which is a step closer to 1st world than 3rd
otherwise I wouldn't have posted. My eyes don't lie.

They're going in because it's easy, and won't stir up too much shit in the area. Mexico's problems isn't a war rather than a really bad gang problem, and other countries like North Korea would actually put up a good fight.

On topic: If Libya has no allies, then America shouldn't worry of a backfire happening in their own country, should they? Libya has nothing to fight back with if Americas got a full force heading their way.
Any action that Obama carries with him, it also involves his own country too. I don't know if he had considered what actions he took but he's really following the path of recklessness like George Bush, in my opinion.

The US, or any nation isn't attacking Libya as far as I know. The UN is and fighting the UN is fighting the whole ****ing world lol.

I'm glad you brought this up. I didn't look at it from this perspective when I posted in the CT thread last night.

So now we just need to ask ourselves which is going to make the world hate Americans more? Leaving Libya to rot because they don't have oil like Iraq, or meddling in their business and getting negative attention from other North Africans.

We didn't step into the chaos that took place in Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain, etc etc. Of course they weren't playing the Hitler card either. :/

It really is a no-win situation for us over there.

I found the second part interesting.

I highly agree with this. He's young and still new even though he's been in office for 3 years. He only knows what his predecessors did. Doesn't make what they all did right though :/

Moammar Gadhafi has been notoriously insane for years, it's about time something has been done about it.

And whether the U.S. steps in or not the tyrant is getting his ass overthrown, the U.N. is leading this with British and French troops. We're trying to take a more "back-seat" supportive position. And yes, darkening the skies with hundreds of missiles is about as "back-seat" as it gets for us because we're Americans and damn it do we love to show off.

And wait, this country actually wants our help? As opposed to the other countries that just randomly got our help shoved down their throats?

As a tax-paying citizen I don't mind my tax dollars helping a country that actually wants help.

I argued the philosophy of "should we intervene in Libya" to death in another message board. If anyone cares to read it, its here.

                          http://the-scholars.com/viewtopic.php?p=535513#p535513

Normally I'd just keep my arguments on one board but the Libyan topic is something I'm very interested in. (Yet I'm supposta be working now so I'm not going to argue the people in here who say otherwise. :P ) The main counter arguments are quoted and if anyone wants to read on or respond to the stuff I said there I'd be happy to respond in an educated way.

/me is polysci major and actually likes to discuss this stuff politely. When it comes to everyone else? Screw being nice.
