Okay, so there were about 40 million people living in the area that Katrina hit? Just for rough numbers.
Take 3 quadrillion [amount demanded] divided by 40 million [number of victims]... whoa my calculator doesn't even go that high... *scratches out a long division problem on a napkin* ...
Okay, that's 75 MILLION DOLLARS FOR EVERY ****ING PERSON THAT WAS HIT BY KATRINA.
If an Average Joe were suddenly to receive a check from the government for $75M, he's instantly filthy rich for the rest of his life. Buy a huge mansion, a bunch of fancy cars, and pretty much anything else you want.
Now, an Average Joe probably has a house worth about $125,000, a car worth about $25,000, and some other possessions that lead to his entire net worth of assets up to about $165,000. Now take that and multiply it by 40 million (just pretending that everyone affected was at Average Joe status). That's 6.6 trillion dollars. But we all know that the government isn't going to pay back everyone in full. They're probably going to get just enough to get their lives going again. (Because hopefully, the majority of these dickheads were insured.) So the amount will be considerably less than that. Asking for $3Q is completely insane.
