Because McDonald's was liable. They have a pot of coffee that they over heat to get the aroma to permeate the store so people will be more inclined to buy it. It was around 50-100 degrees higher than it should have been, and the employees had been instructed NOT to serve out of that pot as it was a hazard. Lo and behold, it was the only pot they had left when they served her, and when the coffee touched her lip, it was hot enough to cause her to drop it. She had been a loyal customer before, so the temperature change was very unexpected. They were serving coffee, that if ingested, would scaled and burn your insides. Luckily, your mouth is there to tell you if something is too hot/too cold/too sexy, so the only thing that was her fault was dropping the coffee.
