    I don't know.

    Maybe because PIRACY IS ILLEGAL AND DRAWING AWAY BILLIONS OF DOLLARS EACH YEAR FROM THEM.

    I don't know why this is such an incredibly difficult thing for you all to discuss.

      Because most people here are 13, and really don't understand the meaning of politics. Or because they are being idiotic.

          I'm 16 and I don't think I'm being idiotic... haha, anyways, I think most of the people in here are "deeply" analyzing the whole situation haha...

          wow, that sounded retarded...

            You're still in high school. Chances are, despite how much you think of yourself, you're still idiotic. I was. I bet Squeek was. I bet any of the people here over 18 were. There's a difference between being mature for your age and understanding something fully.

            If you were the RIAA, you'd do your damnedest to stop something that IS illegal, mind you, from screwing up your profits. What's the difference between 6 million dollars and 1 million dollars? 5 million dollars.

              My (mildy off stopic) question is that even if RIAA closes down limeiwre, they will not go to the store and pick up all those CD's they would have downloaded, they would find another means of pirating, from another program or barrow the CD's from a freind. Come to think of it this isn't a question at all...

                i agree with what you said, but I believe that despite your age, you can understand anything at the fullest extent. And yes, i know the difference between being mature for my age and understanding something fully...but being in high school doesn't mean you can't understand something fully does it?

                  Here's my explanation... simplified.

                  Pirating = A term which means downloading a song in a bad manner, AKA illegially (usually through a P2P program)

                  P2P = Peer-To-Peer, or sharing.

                  LimeWire = A P2P/file sharing program.

                  Illegial = A term from which describes a action that breaks the law, AKA "LimeWire is a P2P/file sharing program, thus it's pirating, which is illegial".

                  Legal = A term from which describes a action that DOESN'T break the law, AKA "I bought this CD from a music store, thus it is legal for me to make copies/burn the CD's songs into my computer. But it is illegal for me to distribute them to someone else".

                  Ok, that should help you understand a lil' bit. LimeWire is a P2P/file sharing program, which is piracy. Piracy screws over the RIAA, which works hard to make millions off of songs that are created by signed/unsigned artists, and by $5,000,000. The RIAA loses money for piracy. The RIAA is trying to end piracy in order to help them for a better cause; for them, and the population's cause.

                  Now I hope all of you are UNDERSTANDING this issue, instead of making ridiculous, off-topic posts describing "OMGWTF WHAI DUS THA RAIA DO THIS! OMFGOMFGOMFG".

                        Try again.

                        Oh, also. LimeWire isn't illegal. The users who share illegal files over it are the cause of the problem. The actual program is legal. The pay-to-use upgrade is what's screwing them over.

                        What if I wanted to share, say, Linux? Is that illegal? No. Linux is free. Anyone can have it, and there's no license on it.

                        It's only illegal if you do not have the rights to share it.

                          hmm.. i've noticed when i send my friends songs i've gotten direct from a cd, they cannot play them because they are 'protected'..

                          Wouldnt someone sharing the files need to alter somethign to make it so the file isnt protected? If so, wouldn't that make it more illegal?

                          i duno. stupidness. :P

                            "Protection" is something Sony tried to do.

                            Nothing will work. The guy who invented the DVD format claimed that nobody would be able to crack the encoding on it. He basically said "without a DVD player, there's no way you're gonna be able to read this disc."

                            A week later a fourteen-year old cracked the encoding. We now have DVD-R drives and DVD rips.

                            Haha.

                              When it comes to electronics, it's not possible to code something that can't be un-coded. Sort of like how we can't build anything that cannot be destroyed. In the act of making something, steps are used which can simply be reversed.

                                One for all I stopped using limewire years ago cause of all the spyware and crap that came with it.. I think its a good thing they are getting sued.. Honestly tho I laugh that the "Music" buisness bitches cause of "SHARING" its not like artests dont already get paid millions of dollors each month. At least a forth of the people in the US go by living each day with less than 20 bucks in there pockets.. Im sure the artists can live just fine with 1mil less money than the 2mil they keep in there pockets..
