Note though, that those models do predict warming of some kind, the minimum being 2.2 degrees fahrenheit, which would probably still have very significant effects.

Also, I'll reiterate, just from some surface researching, the vast majority of scientists agree that global warming is happening/has happened for the past few decades and that a large contributing factor to that was anthropogenic.

Yes, some of it is anthropogenic, and a lot of it is natural cycles as well. Read what I posted about the little ice age that we have just been coming out of recently. Furthermore, there have been some trial models ran that showed that if the world was completely forested the global temperature would actually significantly rise instead of fall due to canopies trapping the heat.

from what I read in wikipedia the theory that the earth is still just recovering from the little ice age doesn't have that much backing for explaining the global warming. granted, that's wikipedia, but I don't feel like actually researching the topic for serious.

On topic, I'm one of those "14 year old kids that doesn't know ****" so I'm just gonna sit back and watch. Never really thought that global warming might not actually be happening o.O All I've ever heard abot global warming is that it's bad and it will lead to serious world problems etc etc.

Aperson is right, kiddos. There is no global warming- and even if there were, it's stupid to assume that 100 years of human interaction caused an global ecosystem-wide shift as dramatic as that.

The media hypes **** up so people will stay glued to their stations 24/7 to catch advancements on the dire situation. Note how they've also predicted worldwide epidemics year after year and they never happen- Mad Cow, SARS, Smallpox, Avian Bird Flu anyone?

And Aperson, though Crichton makes some good points in State of Fear, you really shouldn't quote him. Scientists hate the guy. He takes statistics out of context and twists them around to make his point- not to mention that State of Fear was a really bad book besides.

I'm torn between the two sides.

There are two sides of the issue that I see as legitimate...

1. Data is screwed up and proves nothing.
2. Data is screwed up because of the supposed "dimming of the sun" and we should take precautions.

I have not heard a huge amount of information on the dimming of the sun, but the idea is that the pollution in our air reflects some of the sunlight. The only thing that doesn't make sense is that this would say a mediumly polluted area should be the hottest? I don't know enough about it.

Right now I'd say this: Stop using ****ing coal power plants use nuclear. Push forward with development of cleaner fuels. Don't panic.

I also read Michael Chrichton's book State of Fear and a lot of the points he brought up are good, but alas it is still a fiction novel. But the points he raises shed significant doubt on the idea of global warming that cannot be overlooked. So right now I'd say I'm in the middle, but leaning towards the "it's not as serious as we think" side.

also, I agree with anticrombie. We are giving ourselves WAY too much credit if we think we can kill the earth that easily. The earth has gone through catastrophic ice ages, I'm sure it can survive a bit of heat.
