Some people are better/quicker when it comes to getting that crosshair over the head. Therefore some people are better than others. You say it's easy to find the head on lockout or zanzibar but I'd be willing to bet I could out-snipe you on either map.

      WHOA WHOA WHOA. CONTRADICTION ALERT.

Halo is just like any other FPS. It's involves you shooting other people with various other weapons. How is Halo innovative? Synth pointed it out and I'm suprised nobody said anything. In Halo, if you shoot at someone, chances are that you are going to hit 95% of the time. In CS or CoD, you have to actually aim unless you spray and randomnly kill someone. Does Halo have body-targeted damage? Does Halo actually require you to have actual hand-eye coordination with the sniper rifle? Last time I checked on Halo 2 (which was just last week) it's still piss easy to headshot someone in Lockout or Zanzibar.

Point is, I really don't want to hear people try to justify a game like Halo which is the exact thing every other FPS is: just a FPS with a kickass multiplayer and amazing soundtrack. =P

      PS: CS rocks.
You mean like any one of the thousands of variations of king of the hill, juggernaut, oddball, capture the flag and slayer with inifinite combinations and possibilities in each including weapon and vehicle customizations and placement? People have every right to enjoy and love CS. I will not argue that at all. But yes, compared to the options in Halo2, CS is very limited and repetitive.

As far as body-targeted damage, Do you mean like headshot vs body damage? Yes you have that.

Again, jump on Halo2 and we can show you how easy it is to snipe. Surely on an all snipers game you would have an easy time against one of us right? I am sure we can show you just how difficult it is to be a good sniper. I have been playing for over 2 years and I still don't hold a candle to people like Cyanotic.

(Not upset, just enjoying the discussion)

      Cheers,

Its not that hard to get a headshot. I don't even play that much yet I still get many headshots when playing. One of my friends can get no scope headshots all over the place and he doesn't play all that much either. As from what I've seen it doesn't take that much skill to become a good sniper at Halo. I'm not saying its easy to become a sniping god, but at least on a good sniping level.

Re: Why would anyone play Halo?

Yes, it can be hard at times to snipe someone if you are playing good players, but I'm sorry, if you go into just about any matchmaking game other than TH you should have no trouble sniping someone. Again, it goes back to communication. If you know where a player is, you shouldn't have that much trouble sniping them.

Also, you can't say that Halo 2 is a hard game to learn how to shoot. It just isn't. Every weapon is easy to use, even the BR and Sniper. In Halo, you actually had to have some skill to be a top player, but Bungie watered Halo 2 down so much that it's basically a joke that.

Both games are fun, but you can't say that being good with the weapons on Halo 2 is really difficult.

ps. Even in TH it's really not too hard to snipe someone.

It's not a valid argument though. To be a top player you have to be extremely gifted.

Ok, lets do this. This should validate your argument. I will give you $20 if you can match my level in team snipers level within 2 weeks. If being good with the sniper is easy, you should be able to accomplish this within about 50 wins.

My level is 34 in snipes, the clock starts tomorrow. And I am serious about the $20.

If I had an Xbox with Halo 2 I would gladly take this challenge, but alas I only play XBL with a friend every other week. However, If you want to have a Scouts-only CS Sniper match Synth, I'd be happy to oblige.

Also, this is the most excited I've seen Synth in a thread in YEARS.

EDIT: In response to the countless variations in Halo Synth, I can do the exact same thing in UT2K4, but still it's all the same basic game modes: CTF, Take The Base, DM, Kill the guy with the Uber Health, etc.

Yay, chamillion stops by... and yeah, thats the right Tosh, haha...

Only thing im really going to add in.. is Yeah, its easy to get 'a headshot' ... but are you able to pull it off nealry every time, even when you only have half a second of life left to pull it off?
The game is easy to play and learn, but its hard to get very good at it... Why would bungie create halo 2 to where its VERY hard to master.. It's great this way cause a lot more people play it addictively and try to become pro..

Edit: If any of you want to add me, I'm Cyanotic v2 on XBL.. my CyanoticXtC name is on the old xbox and i rarely ever get on it..
I won't be around for too much longer though, i leave for basic training in the airfroce in 2 1/2 weeks.

Re: Why would anyone play Halo?

guys it makes no sense at all to compare a PC FPS to a console FPS, especially CS and Halo 2

CS has been around for like 6 or 7 years, and players play it using a keyboard and mouse.

Halo 2 has been around for 3 years and players play it using a controller

You HAVE to be skilled to kill people in CS for two reasons:

1.) people use a keyboard and mouse and you can get WAY, WAY, WAY better aiming with a mouse than you can with a controller joystick
2.) it's been around for VERY long and a lot of people have been playing it for 4-5 years so the quality of play is better

That doesn't mean that Halo 2 is any worse, idiot, it just means that the gap between the best and the worse is significantly narrower.

I don't understand how you can deride Halo as "a straight FPS" when CS has NOTHING going for it in creativity. You have a map, guns, and you kill the other team. When everyone dies, you do it all over again. Occasionally you may have to defuse a bomb or rescue hostages, but even then it doesn't happen every time.

Halo 2 has oddball, juggernaut, you can switch around weapons, you can switch around how much health, shield, grenades everyone has, the list goes on and on. Hardly repetitive, is it?

Synth I'd be happy to take you up on the Halo 2 sniper challenge though... i'm a bit rusty because I play rainbow six vegas a ton but i bet it'd be close

I honestly and personally think Halo 2 is the best (online) game ever, and it's the best thing since sliced Tribes.

You guys also have to understand that there is a very broad line between console gaming and pc gaming.. if you dont play both then you have no right to discredit one... truthfully it shouldnt matter...this discussion always leads to "consoles are obsolete because they cant be upgraded" which is a true statement in the most part but that same quote was used after the release of the n64...then yet again after the release of the ps2 and xbox.. see the conspiracy?

I never said that the top players weren't gifted. I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. I merely said that Halo 2 is not a difficult game to learn how to play and be effective at. If you're going to compare it to another game, lets compare it to Halo. It is much harder to go from Halo 2 to Halo and be effective than the other way around. Halo is just has a harder learning curve. Sniping is harder, and the pistol, even though it takes only 3 shots, takes more skill than the BR.

On to your bet, arbitrarily picking 34 for me to match won't exactly prove how good someone is. Anyone that plays Halo 2 on Live should know that rankings really mean nothing anymore. The system doesn't really do justice in reflecting someone's actual skill.

Yes, it still is very good to get to a 34 in any gametype, but just getting to a number isn't the only way to determine someone's skill. I'll try to accomplish your bet, but I'm not sure I'll be on a lot, much less 50 games. Much more important things to worry about.

The thing I was really trying to get at is that becoming a solid player at Halo 2 isn't that hard. I would much rather play you 1v1 or play with you in a game. A lot of the pro's ranks aren't even up to a 40, sometimes even a 30. Just going by a number doesn't tell how good someone is.
