    Re: Final Fantasy XIII -3

sure you can cast if you want to, but keeping huge stores of drawn magic is insanely powerful. the only spells i ever cast after draw farming were haste and regen. i guess it could be a pro instead of a con, since it allowed me to have non-support magic take a back seat (which i prefer in rpgs). it was just, after playing ff7 i was expecting to see ultima blasting everything to pieces, since that's what i did in that game. when NOT casting ultima gave me what felt like bigger benefits, i was slightly miffed.

guys my list was like 80% joking. i listed onions for ff3, ffs.

also nasa is a bunch of weenies. i should be living on mars already but no.

    playstaitno 1: best conseoles ever?

in looking up this clip and a few other things about this game, i found that apparently a lot of people liked it. i can't fathom why, but whatevs. was the clunkiest piece i'd ever played, i promptly went back to super ghouls n ghosts. this dude makes controlling arthur feel like jehuty.
yes i realize one game doesn't define a console
look, i even said that jehuty controls extremely well, and that's from a ps2 game
i hope i don't have to spell everything out or i'm gonna feel like Dossar up in herr @_@

      Re: Final Fantasy XIII -3

FFI-IV - Never came out over here in the UK until the late days of the PS1. No amazing nostalgia-fest for me, but I've really enjoyed playing the various remakes of IV-VI on handhelds. I did play though VI and Chrono Trigger back in the SNES days on emulator, making them about the only 2 games I've ever played on emulator.

FFVII - Living in the UK and being limited in my access to RPGs (check out the EU SNES library or RPGs for a lol), this was AMAZE. Blew my mind, much like it blew the minds of so many. I still love the game, although not to the extent that you see the thousands of animu fanboys at every convention and expo. Hell, we have a regular congoer here in the UK who attends the big cons and the MCM London Expo (our version of comikon), and he legally changed his name to Vincent Valentine. He does have a kick ass costume, but that doesn't excuse him for changing his name by deed poll.

FFVII Pro - The tower defense game at Fort Condor. Just make that a game and release it on PSN for me please.

FFVIII Cons - Queen of cards is an overpowered cheating whore who ruins no levelling 100% completion games.

Reach - It's nice to see that somebody else likes to do alt challenges in FF games! I've got a save on my PSP where I'm doing the no levelling 100% speedrun for FFIX, but I'm a bit stuck trying to get that King of Jumprope key item or whatever it's called. With a bit of planning the run isn't hard, but I don't know if it's the PSP making it harder but I CAN'T DO THIS MINIGAME. I can't continue in the story until I get it either as there are only 2 opportunities in the game -_-

FFIX Cons - Framerate difference makes it impossible to get Excalibur 2 in the low level 100% speedrun.

FFX was very linear and that did annoy me, but I totally forgave it after I completed the game as there was so much to do for the monster arena. I wanted to complete that sphere grid, I wanted to defeat the dark aeons, and grinding monsters in the arena was actually a good way of passing a few hours every other day. Dodging lightning bolts was a pain in the ass though.

Never played X-2 as the dressup idea made it seem silly.

XII I played for just over 2 hours, never really got into it and have never played it again. My PS2 broke shortly after, maybe that's part of the reason why.

XIII didn't feel like an FF game. Rather than play FFXIII I sank countless hours into playing multiplayer Dragon Quest 9. I regret NOTHING.

dodging lightning in 10 was super lulzy. i almost listed that as pro, actually

i only liked dress-up with the girls because i'm an idiot

dragon quest 9 is amazing, your decision was sound

I'm actually replaying this game right now. It's not bad at all, it just didn't sit well with me when I first played it for some reason. I think it has a lot to do with Vaan and Penelo feeling like fluff side characters at best, and are generally pretty annoying. It also somehow doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy game to me, if that makes any sense to you. It may have made my top 3 worst FF games, but the only truly bad ones - abysmal ones, even - are X and XIII, so let's be nice and put XIV at the top instead.

I often shamelessly confess to obsessing over stuff like this way more than I should. I won't ever play X-2 because it looks like a total piece of shit even worse than its predecessor, but still.

I think I'm the only person who flat out just hated FF7. I didnt have fun with it at all until the third disc, and even then I was just really let down. I think a lot of it was overhyped though, because they had massive magazine spreads and everything else playing up every crazy feature, and once I got the final game, I was like "...wut."

Honestly, I couldn't stand Cloud, and it felt like everything plodded right up until the shinra tower, then it plodded until Aeris dies, and then it plodded until Cloud got his shit fixed. I felt like the dramatic urge of "oh man I gotta do this RIGHT NOW OR ELSE!" was just completely missing.

Man, you're trying to 100% it? Haha. 1000 jumps is ridiculous, which is why I never even bothered with getting that. Beating the game at level 1 is hard enough IMO. I would never speed run it at the same time, though I've been curious as to whether or not Ozma at level 1 in less than 12 hours would be possible (will never attempt it though).

As much as I like FF12, it does take awhile to get into it. It's slow to start, but after you get a couple hours in the game is pretty much pure action.

Also, really need to restart Dragon quest 9 and beat it this time. I started it awhile ago but had to stop and didn't even get halfway through it Alas, finishing Ocarina of Time 3D and then i'll start replaying it likely.

i loooooooved ff7, and ff8 for that matter, specifically because the main protagonists were garbage. boosted my self-esteem over 9000-fold.

seriously, wheelchair cloud is HILARIOUS. squall just annoyed the hell out of me until he carried rinoa on the train tracks, that was when i realized i just felt bad cuz he's a big loser.

Apparently it can be done, as the record for 100% completion at level one is somewhere around 10 hours. Ozma is all about luck so expect a lot of restarts XD

You're not the only one that doesn't like it, I tried playing it quite some time ago (admittedly it was the god-awful PC port) and I just could not keep playing. Don't remember where exactly I made it to, though.

Of course, I'm an oddball when it comes to the FF series, since I consider X-2 to be one of my favourites mainly because I liked how open-ended it was when compared to X (which I also love). The mini-games did bog it down a bit, however.

Getting on-topic though, I find it astounding that of all FF games to release a sequel for, let alone two, they chose XIII to do it with. While the linearity and lack of towns was off-putting, I found that there were only one or two characters that weren't super annoying to deal with. Not to mention the fact that Sazh is the only character that doesn't have a name that itself is a word already (unless it's a word in some language that I'm unaware of). I just felt that there was an immense lack of creativity and effort put into the parts that make the FF series what it is.
I didn't hate it outright, though, I found the battle system to be a lot of fun to work with. I'm glad they didn't change it all that much for XIII-2 (which, while a little bit better, really fell flat with the characters and the story).

I dunno. I'm one of those people who'll probably just suck it up, buy the game and play it until it's fully completed anyway because I refuse to be left out of the loop when it comes to a FF debate. Even still, I'm disappointed this is the one they're making another sequel for, instead of, say, XII.

P.S. Also, I think it's a ridiculous blunder to make the ultimate enemy in both XIII and XIII-2 the exact same enemy, down to its abilities and strategies you need to beat it. It took all the strategy out of fighting it in XIII-2 as I'd already had it figured out from the previous game.

You beat Valdofr lv.99? Holy crap.

If it makes you feel better, XII is part of the same world as Final Fantasy Tactics & Vagrant Story.

@Pseudo Enigma: I'm not surprised that they're doing that. It's different, which is the norm for the series. They did make Vagrant Story, so it's not too big of a surprise.

I found omega harder actually, since I couldn't figure out a way to beat him even at 99 without using a weird strategy where I run around in circles a lot and get into a spot kind of underneath him where he misses a shot on me, allowing me to hit him a few times. Otherwise, his damage is too damn high and interrupting the heal chain to hit him leaves me dead. I hear you can beat him using reverse but I didn't have any luck with that. It was also a massive pain in the ass figuring out where he was.

Yiazmat on the other hand wasn't too hard assuming you were at least level 80 and were persistent. He was easy to find, located right next to a save and was only really a serious threat right before he dies and goes into berzerk mode where he like 12 chain combos you constantly.

I also found omega from 5 probably the hardest in the series, along with some of the bosses in the bonus dungeon in the GBA version. Mind you, omega in 5 is easy to cheese if you're using a guide but trying to figure out how to beat him normally was a huge pain in the ass (I generally refuse to use guides for anything).

                                Speaking of guides:

The only thing that sucks about not using guides are one-time-only secrets/items/etc where if you miss em the first time, they're gone for good.

I also feel stupid once I've beaten the game and find that some boss I had a hell of a time with is actually super easy with some obvious strategy I didn't even bother to think of. :<
