Re: Your top 10 personal simfiles

in all honesty not many of my files are really noteworthy for too much besides being fun. but here's the ones i feel are my best

1 Airbase - didn't get much attention from the community, but its by far one of my best files
2 Mind Mapping - with Puppet's help this is what got me into putting jack theory into files.
3 Engine Room - at the top only because it's what got me into stepping. i was horrible at it, up to this point
4 Criss Cross - My first collab file, and probably one of the best files I've had participation in since i started stepping around '08
5 Chill Penguin - I made a hard file for once with this on Beginner. Thats realy what was noteworthy for me on this file. and it wasn't hard because of mines or overlayering.
6 Monstrous Turtles! - I LOVE this file for a lot of reasons. mostly because it's one of the first files i went all-out layering on and made sure it was really fun and replayable. also stepping theories all over it from '05 with mwerp climax theory to even '11 with a few jack theory portions in it.
7 Red Hot Skull - honestly really awesome because of the mines i threw around on it and the way they're placed, the layering, everything in this is pretty much down to the bone on perfection from me. i know if someone else stepped this they'd ever do it completely or make it more creative but this is one of the few files i've made i'm pretty sure no one could really make it any better than it already is
8 Pleasure Castle - this was pretty good at the time i made it. it had it's errors, but for the file being rushed for UEMP and its purpose makes it p cool
9 Loud Electronic Ferocious - this file is awesome for the whole 20 minutes i took to make it
10 Main Menu v2 - idk why no one really plays or posts scores from this from TG '10, its one of my generic jumpstream files that are REALLY fun

Re: Your top 10 personal simfiles

I'll only count the files that are on FFR or are intended to be:

            1. Mario Mix For Piano (unreleased, but I'm confident it'll get in. I put all my heart into making it. I love the song to death, and I think the chart does it justice. There is not much more I can say, it's my favorite at the moment.)
            2. Animus Intorqueo No. 3 (In terms of technicality, structure and dynamic BPMs, I doubt I'll ever be able to top this chart. It didn't take that long to make since I was able to practice using ddreamstudio with No. 1 and 2, but this one stood out for some reason in my heart.)
            3. Jazzman - Super Mario Bros. (unreleased, it has that jazzy groove I dig so much in other people's charts)
            4. Lives Without Meaning (I stepped the song because I liked it. Stepped it in like an hour, never expected much out of it. It's the file most people seem to know me for and I really enjoy how I managed to PR those drumbeats.)
            5. Automata (Anyone remembers that file? There are many memories that come with it: I contacted the author myself for the first time, I was able to experiment in ddream and come up with the red burst sections that some people seemed to enjoy, and it's just all around a damn good tune. It almost plays itself since it flows so well. It also got me into Dragons Fury at the time, without which I wouldn't be stepping for this community today)
            6. Animus Intorqueo No. 2 (Welp, this one is pretty good too. And fun, at least to me!)
            7. Mega Man 9 Rock Medley (I'm just glad I got to finish this beast in the first place (thanks to Shikari, Niala and megamon88), it came out even better than I initially planned.)
            8. Stress (Not many people like this file, but not many people would've had the courage to step it either. I'm proud of that achievement no matter what.)
            9. Art Of The Madness (unreleased, I stepped a Kil file...! It makes me feel nostalgic.)
            10. Never Enough (in queue, this song holds no special value in particular, but it just flows so well I always come back to it xD)

            Honorific mention: .357 magnum

            ps I like this thread.

Re: Your top 10 personal simfiles

              1. Alchemy (DF Engine)
Most thanks will have to go to Godspeed for making such a steppable track. Jacks, hands, guitar solos, climax theory, I just really like how it turned out.

              2. Freak (FFR Unreleased)
Won't spoil anything, but Godspeed's got something with great rhythms. This track was a WIP for 3 years, decided to start from scratch. It's like Alchemy, but without jacks or hands, which puts it in number 2.

              3. La Verdine (DF Engine)
My first successful attempt at DDReam syncing. Just a fun file imo, streams 'n trills.

              4. Playing SMW on Shrooms (SM file hi19hi19's Tourney Pack Oni difficulty)
What can I say, technical dump. It's got it all: jacks, polyrhythms, rainbows, mines, holds, JS, HS, climax, length, variety, replayability.
I put it in number 4 because there are only few people who appreciate it, so it feels like a turd with a diamond in it.

              5. Twister (DF Engine)
Again with the Godspeed. This file... oh man... this file... so much rainbows. Was going for a Blue Rose-like file, but it went a bit wrong. Layering is weird, patterns and grace notes are all over the place, but it's like abstract art.
This file is the birthplace of my stepping style, but it's shoddy and overrainbow'd.

              6. The Cataclysm (Unfinished collab with hi19hi19)
I can't not put this here... hi19, if you're reading this, I sent a PM a while ago. Let's finish this monster of a file!

              7. Put Curse on You (Scintill Steps Four Tracks From The Same Artist And Decides To Release It Tinypack)
              Epic JS, that is all.

              8. 0x1311 (DF Engine)
What? You stepped that track? How unoriginal. Nevertheless, I think it worked out really nice. Arrogant as it may seem, I think it's the most legit file of it out there :P

              9. Gonna Hit The Bass (FFRPartyy Pack 1)
Interesting rhythm, technical dubstep. Could've had a bit more emphasis/variety with holds and mines, but wasn't good with them. Sadly, it ended up in an unsuccessful pack.

              10. Slashmaid (DF Engine)
More of a bonus in here. Worthy of mentioning. Best technical bs tournament file stepped in 2 hours I made. DOSSAR, WHY DID YOU STEP THE INSTRUMENTAL VERSION OF IT?! YOU RUINED IT!

Edit: copying MarioNintendo: honorific mention: Circus Galop (HSMP9): play it, it's awful

Re: Your top 10 personal simfiles

I'm only a new stepfile artist but I've gotten the hang of making some cool files and excluded my shitty dump files.

                        1. Hungarian Rhapsody No 6 - My masterpiece. exclusive FFR file that hopefully will be in game soon. 900+ BPM changes, my first DDReam file, some PR is included. It was tough to sync the quiet section in the middle. 6 minute piano file, and it has a very tough climax meant for pro stepman. Polyrhythm part at the end is a pain, so props to whoever AAAs it. If for some reason this doesn't get accepted, I'll just release it as a single.

                        2. First Of The Year - Unreleased dubstep file with color theory, rip dubstep minipack 2. I'll donate this file to any good stepmania pack that's accepting submissions atm, only one difficulty though.

                        3. Fried Eggs In My Ear - I'm disappointed this didn't get accepted for FFR, so instead it's in RDCMP2. I think it's a neat Otto von Schirach song with intense 16th note runs and a really aidsy ending.

                        4. Shotgun Surgery - It seems like a good amount of people really enjoyed the file, while some don't. Of course the trills are bad, I hate them too, but count your blessings. The song at the very beginning includes 16th note strumming that's heard on the left side only (if you wear headphones while playing FFR you'd know) and "technically" it would be correct if it were all left-down arrow trills. However, I decided to be a bit nice and flipped it around evenly so that it was left hand and right hand trills. Cool collab with Hateandhatred, and it's so stamina draining for such an easy file that it surprises even me.

                        5. Kachoufusetsu - Also in RDCMP2. Neat MA file that I made in about an hour or two. It uses cliche patterns but it's alright.

                        6. Magnum - upcoming FFR file. The speedup BPM changes sounds accurate to my ears. Good chart for a good song, in my opinion. The half BPM is stupid since it makes no sense and I only added it so that the file didn't look so boring (EVERYONE LOVES COLORS). Lots of minijacks, pretty hefty file.

                        7. The Bird's Midair Heatstroke - (DF Engine) This file shows my pattern choices well, pretty much. I pretty much put strict layering and 100% accurate rhythms aside and just let myself go with nice flowing patterns. It is easy to mind block, though. Some bursts are nasty as well, especially that 48th note staircase.

                        8. Brown Time - (DF Engine) Misrhythms in a lot of places, but I did okay with pattern choices.

                        9. Roy - (DF Engine) tough Terminal 11 file, but it's a love-hate relationship that I have with the file. I don't think it's garbage, but the file could have been a lot better.

                        10. Betrayal - meh, it's at least better than the SM version, although I copied a few sections from it (most notable is the long [12][12][12][12][12][12][12][12] jack in the beginning). It's synced well which I did by ear on Stepmania, less color notes and no BNS/YNS. FFR needs more speedy files like this. My Corporal Jigsaw Quandary would have been perfect but FFR is whiny and can't handle 300 bpm streams.

Number 1 could be because it's my newest file, but I do think I did a really good job on the steps. When I play a lot of my older files, I always think "oh I should've done this differently." Interestingly, the hardest one to place was number 10. At that point, it came down to me thinking, "which one of my other files do I think is most deserving of a spot on the list." Other considerations for the position included 5.8.8 (I really liked the few bpm stop gimmicks, but the steps could use work), Dokudenpa, Guillaume Tell, P8107 (challenge steps), Planetz, and Warcry of Salieri. Interestingly, I have a very old file that I made for "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers" that would be high on the list, but I never released it because I never made graphics for it. I should really work on that. Also, my next release, "Roots" by Filthy, is turning out very good.
