Seriously it's a challenge for me to actually class my files like that.
                          I guess it's something like
                          1. to Luv me I *** for u. (reprise) (this file is perfect and everything I expected it to be)
                          2. Flotage B
                          3. Trap Phantasm (aesthetical and quite fun I think)
                          4. Snakeman Stage (very fun and feels very complete)
                          5. Session 9 -Chronicles-
                          6. Tewi Within V2 (fun)
                          7. Sayonaramatane
                          8. YOUR VIBE (The music. The file. it goes out together very good!!!!)
                          9. Moon Child
                          10. The Limbo or Mercilessness Desperado
Suimega is my present username!!! (b-but feel free to call me scylaax anyway) | https://suimega.bandcamp.com/

doing mine in reverse order because that's how i roll

                              AHNURABLE MENTIONS
midnight (2009, LCP) - i love this file even though parts of it are old and crappy
quake (2009, Xoon 5) - same. there are a few things in here that still irk me because i could make them flow better. very proud of this file nontheless
one with the stars (2010, LCP2) - pooped this one out on a whim but it's stood the test of time well.
shinsekai (2010, CKBMP4) - Kommi sent me this song, took a stab at it but got lazy near the end and didn't step the ~piano solo~. this file is denser than most of my work but does a great job at expressive both the melodic and percussive elements.
spiral (2010, LCP2) - my attempt at stripping back. one of my more popular files on the scoreboards, which i'm happy about.

                              10. mystic 11 (2009, Xoon 4) - stepped during a Serenade binge (fun fact: quake, vanity, and roar were all stepped within 6 months of each other ). one of two collabs I did with Kommisar and Cherubi. I took a stab at stepping the guitar solo cleanly in this file; it's still one of my best solos, in my opinion. this is mostly song tbh but file owns too

                              9. extermination (2012, FFR Summer 2012) - this file is somewhat inspired by Kil's Magun. tried some weird stuff with jack theory that paid off a lot.

                              8. scar in the earth (2010, LCP2) - flowy file that fits the file nicely. nothing too complex but i really do find this file beautiful in its own special way.

                              7. car sax (2011, LCP3) - i had wanted to step this song ever since i heard the song in SMGCRP. it took me three years to get to it, along with countless retweaks and feedback requests. the result is a bit messy at times, but fantastically smooth in others and overall a file that has a surprising amount of depth every time i revisit it.

                              6. papyrus (2009, Xoon 5) - one of my first attempts at going all out technical on something after Puppet had showed me the ropes throughout the first half of 2009. love the song and love the file.

                              5. flashback 90s (2009, Xoon 5) - another file that went through countless rough drafts, revisions, and adjustments before its release. plays very chill for such a packed file--this file has a lot of traits that would slowly become the core of my style with time: color note usage, mine gimmickry on sound effects, and emphasis on spacious patterns.

                              4. higher (2010, LCP2) - some of the stuff i did here still makes me kinda giddy when i play it

                              3. never fade away (2010/2011? LCP3) - my attempt at a scoring file. not too hard but some subtly tricky patterns in here that make it one of my most replayable files.

                              2. apple butter (2012, Morarri and Cheeks phase 1) - i am insanely insanely insanely proud of this file. the song is fantastic (duh it's good-cool) and offers tons to express, all of which I think I got down here. the jazzy sections flow nicely, the more drum'n'bass sections are suitably intense, and I even found space for some ver nice mine usage. this is a file that incorporates everything I learned about stepping over seven years and does so seamlessly, in my opinion. I couldn't be happier with how this turned out.

however, not even that file (or any of my files) has or ever will touch this file for me:

                              1) croqel
                              croqel i
                              croqel ii
                              croqel iii

here's a comprehensive history of what is my favorite personal file

in early 2009, the second FFR Community Pack came out. it was (and still is) a landmark release to me: i was seeing styles of stepping and ideas that i had never even thought of before, not even in what most deemed excellent packs at that time (ODIpack2, RFpack...Dark Chancellors Pack had a fair amount of innovative files, but the backlash swallowed most of the discussion for that pack up). one file, however, stuck out to me: Patashu's Cosmic Dust.

                              song by Phlogiston. dat's right.

sure, the file was pretty good, but the song immediately became one of my favorite songs of all time: there's this warmth, this wonder, to the melodies that is so wonderfully complemented by the chip instrumentation. (am i getting too corny here?) it awakened something in me--something that made me google Phlogiston and devour all the music he had. one of his works was the 16-minute chip epic Croqel, composed of...16 tracks, all of them short loops.

www.iimusic.net/catalog/2007/08/croqel - you should listen to this right now if you haven't. it's an absolute classic and one that deserves to be recognized and heard.

so there I was with 16 beautiful minisongs but unable to step any of them because of how short they are. one, Sunrag, is barely good for a short file at only a minute long. I tried to step it and submit it to what was then FFR Community Pack 3. (which would become DCP2, which would become Xoon 5. whatdoyouknow?)

response was good, nothing great. omgitznpv, that dude who had all the good files in the first FFR Community Pack, gave it a 3.5/5, the only score I ever get from him that doesn't make me look like a paste-eating abomination on the face of Stepmania. (just joking, by the way. i think he hated almost everybody's files.)

that file would eventually be released in XOON DRAMA PACK after some bouncing around, but the success inspired in me an attempt at stepping everything in Croqel. everything. the whole hog.

I don't know if I always planned for it to be a trilogy, but the idea was certainly there from the start. I began work on the first five songs (I felt that the ending of the fifth song felt natural as an ending) and banged out a quick first draft. surprisingly, though, 99% of the file stayed the same as the first draft: there was just this ease to stepping the songs in Croqel that I had never felt with any song before--and I never did feel the same way again.

Croqel Part I debuted in Xoon 4 to a lot of positive feedback, and at that point, I knew that eventually I was going to step the whole thing. and I did. one part per year up to 2011.

Croqel represents something beautiful about Stepmania to me. sure, there's a great feeling to stepping any song in a way that resonates with musicians and gamers, but Croqel is different. it's a file that I'm baring my soul on: you can see it in the marathon file with all three parts. watch as the mawkish but cute steps of 2009 gradually shift to 2011...it's a file two years in the making. it's a file that's about the music and how I learned to move with it. it's a file that shows why I have stayed with this game for ten years. it's a file that proves beyond a doubt, if not for others then at least for me, that this is not just a game for me anymore.

look, I was nine years old when I uploaded my first file to the FFR Simfile Database. I literally grew up with Stepmania and the culture here. I have earned the right to be lovey-dovey about all of this. for reals.
