it's kind of hard to keep it down if you're playing a fast/hard song.
While it makes sense in theory to keep the keytaps soft so you expend less energy per tap, resulting in more stamina and possibly more speed, it's kind of hard to stray from what you know works when you're playing on the edge of your abilities.
I've been admonished to keep the keytaps down in the computer lab a few times at Wayne State, but only once was I actually kicked out of the lab at a community college for playing FFR. And yes, their reasoning was that it was a game and that I was being inconsiderate of others that might have needed to use the computer for more important things. (Sometimes it was by fellow students, and sometimes it was by the library staff, though there was that one time someone filmed me getting 600K on Gradeus--this was back in my first year or two of playing, mind you.) And when I stay up until all hours of the night game-whoring, I'm told to keep it down because my keytaps are audible on the next floor down and the music can get fairly loud, not to mention my cursing.
I really don't empathize with you. If you're making a lot of noise playing FFR/SM in the library, that's pretty rude. I know that I'd be annoyed if someone was constantly tapping loudly while I was trying to do work.
I actually played a justin bieber file in school last friday and my history teacher said she expected better from me as an A student and that she didn't even want to know what I was doing lmfao.

oh boy, it's STIFF, I'll stretch before I sit down at the computer so not I'm not as STIFF next time I step a file
Do they really have to kick you out instead of tell you to keep it down?
Actually that is all they asked, but they were pretty pissed, and I had nothing else to do so I left.

I usually sit away from people, but someone sat near me and I had headphones on so I didn't realize it.

Well the library at my school has a computer lab and many people just use their own laptops so the librarian just assumes that I'm typing an assignment or something. However, the librarian does give me a strange look when she notices that my keytaps are getting somewhat repetitive and rhythmic. XD
