Calling Artists & Coders

Posted in Uncategorized on January 27th, 2007

First off, thanks to everyone who has subscribed so far. You have no idea how much you help relieve our stresses around here. Your contributions will help us roll that support back into development, server costs and bandwidth costs. Take a moment out to realize that yesterday, more than 330,000 games of FFR were played in only 24 hours. Seriously.. think about it. I still have a hard time believing in it. And that is normal.

Anyway, we are looking to ramp up production on things like 3rd style, SpinItUP, Resonance and yes even R2. I do as much as possible in Flash / Site and Jason does as much as possible in php among numerous other duties (of course we can’t forget Rickz0rz). It seems like alot, but even with 3 guys working in the code, our development tends to be rather limited because we are swamped with all kinds of site wide responsibilities.

Would you like to join our development team? We could really use some new artists and coders on board to help move these projects along at a quicker pace.

If you would like to join our team of developers or know someone who would, please make sure that you send us examples of your work that can be backed up with either source code or photoshop files. We are not looking for people who consider themselves a jack of all trades. We would like people who are focused and talented and see a course for their vision.

Just use the contact us link at the bottom of the screen to attach samples and complete information about yourself. Submissions without samples will be deleted.

There are other benefits we would like to discuss with potential developers.

Cheers,

Synthlight & the rest of the staff

*EDIT* – Just to clarify, we are looking for the following. Actionscript, PHP, Java, Photoshop Designers (interface). We have had a bunch of offers and feedback already but only a couple of people have left samples of their work.

  1. Hmm i’m not going to say first, cause i want to break that tradition. But i hope you really do “ramp up” 3rd style.

  2. 2nd..
    Nice!

  3. 329,000 games played by me :P

  4. well u kinda said first jugglinguy

  5. That’s… 330,000 games in 24 hours? Jeez.

Well, I’d like to be a pupil of Jason (seriously), and use that experience you help with anything. Just I don’t know if you’d let me.

  6. Use the contact button below to ask. You would have a better chance of becoming a developer :p Thats what I did.

  7. To do that many games in 24 hours, you must be failing the first part of the same song over and over again XD
I would love to be part of the team, but i dont exactly consider myself an expert, i am pretty decent though, ill try to find some of my own work and send that in as a sample.

  8. If only I was old enough.

  9. i am by far no expert, but i am okay at photoshop and have some freetime to dedicate to the game…

even if it were to be a project unhandleable, i have some friends that have a lot of photoshop uder thier belts.

if you accept 15 year olds to help, then count me in.

  10. whats third style?

  11. code eh what types of code my wife is majoring in Digital arts/Programming and im a jack of all trades. seriously I doubt i can be of much assistance w/ coding and what nots but im brilliant and mt wife is MUCH smarter than me in that side of things (ie programming)

  12. my bro is expert at photoshop, see if u can get him in. He uses a tablet and makes wicked-ass pics. ill see if i can get him in.

  13. Kaftan might be interested in helping you out, since he’s good with Flash and Fireworks. His old site is http://www.squirrelnutz.net, but it hasn’t been updated in ages, because he lost ftp access or something like that. I’ll send him a link to this news entry though.

  14. If I had to guess, I’d assume he’s looking for people with a decent amount of experience in either many forms of Flash, perhaps some PHP, and even some database management.

As for arts, I’d assume some professional type people is the target. There are a lot of good graphic artists on the site.

That shouldn’t discourage anyone though. I personally don’t know enough yet, but anyone who could would be great for the site, so projects could progress.

  15. say…, I’M IN!!!

  16. sorry, i was hyper at that time, but i really do agree with Tps222.

  17. I’d definitely like to help out on the art department.
I’m sure you’ve seen a majority of my art that I’ve posted here on FFR, I’ll do anything to help. Just let me know ^_^

  18. Sucks that I’m not what you’re looking for due to lack of experience, especially professional =( I’m just a Flash artist, not a good programmer and never worked on a project that involved more than basic actionscript.

I’ll eventually get around to contributing music, though. That’s always helpful, I guess 8)

  19. I want to work with Darkshark. That would be awesome. I’m a master at graffiti letters, with and without spraypaint. But that doesn’t really count as art… I can do other stuff too, but that’s what I’m best at…

  27. If I’d would have more time, I’d love to help you. The problem is that I work (as Coder for C++) and am studying at the moment :( So I don’t have much time left.
A while ago I also made a homepage in Flash and got a bit into Actionscript (though the language changed much till now). Also a while ago I had to get into Java for studying purposes, so that’s also not new for me. It should would take some time till I would be totally fit in those languages, but that shouldn’t be a too big obstacle :)
Maybe I join in summer 07 after my studies have finished, if you need somebody then :)

I love this site and I love this game and really appreciate your work. Never thought something coded in Flash would work so performant :)

Traditional art is my forte, but I also am highly skilled in the use of Photoshop, Corel Draw, 3d Studio Max, Maya, among other things. C’mon synth you know you wanna x)

  29. Think of how many games have been booed out of, though =P

  30. shes pretty good with a pencil lol and 3d,thats all i know of.

  31. I’m fifteen years old and don’t have much to do, so if you need an interfacer, I’m game.

I don’t use Photoshop, but GIMP 2.2.13, and I occaionally contribute to the project. I’ve been working with it for about eight months. I know a little bit of Java from when I studied it a couple of years ago as well.

If you would like some samples of my ability with GIMP, I have recently posted a Tag Wall in the “32-Bit RGB” forum. Here is a link to the thread:
