This I Believe.

So, this is basically an essay we wrote in class. The subject everyone was writing on was, This I Believe. I've never had so much fun writing before. Mine was about free speech. I really like free speech and I use it whenever I can.

Why is it that people are so afraid to show how they are on the inside? Is it because we’re all afraid of what people think? Then, because of that, we mask our emotions? What kind of life is that? Always hiding what you really think because you could lose your precious reputation. People need to be more open-minded and say what they wouldn’t normally say. Make this change and you’ll feel better; keep yourself locked up and you might keep your friends, but lose yourself. People who are afraid to be too bold don’t deserve to have free speech because they aren’t ready to take that, oh-so-gigantic step of saying something different. I hate it when people hide what they really think because they aren’t giving themselves a chance at life. There have been many instances when saying what you think has been a good thing. One example would be Martin Luther King. He said what he really thought and it changed the country. Yes, he died for it, but he was using his free speech instead of hiding it like someone from the 18th century.
Another thing, this is the 21st century, not the 18th. This is not the time when people were putting each other down for saying something slightly out of line. In this day and age, you can say something offensive without being put in jail. You might get beat up because someone doesn’t agree, but it’s his right to disagree and beat you up, but then it’s your right to send him to jail for assault.
Being patriot is all fine and good, but some people get crazy about it and think you shouldn’t be here if you wouldn’t actually die for your country! I don’t like the military because all they do is go out and kill people. It’s the worst job ever. Our wars are pointless. Nothing good ever comes of it. And why the fact people freak over the presidential candidates not wearing flag pins on their lapels becomes an issue in the first place is just downright retarded. What I mean by that is that, if you continue to talk about the same stupid subject for three days that has nothing to do with the real issues, you must have impaired thinking.
And while I’m on the subject of our country, let me say that political correctness is ruining this country. It’s another one of those things that hinders your ability to say what you want. It’s the force that ruins TV with word censoring. It’s the force that keeps our political figures from saying what they think. They are really the ones who should be saying something different because it was the government that set up the constitution. If they can’t use it themselves, then why was it made at all?
A lot of people go off on gay people for just being themselves. Being gay is okay. They aren’t hurting anyone. It’s really annoying to see gays being put down all the time. So what, he’s gay. He’s human, not an alien. He isn’t busting out of anyone’s chest. They’ve been killed for just being different. How close-minded is that? Suddenly, living your life isn’t so easy just because you like the same gender. Get over it, there is nothing wrong with being gay.
Say something that might get you beat up. Stand for what you stand for. Don’t let others do the work for you. Have radical ideals. Don’t let others control your life. Have fun with free speech, piss people off. It’s your right, use it for all that it is worth.

If you don't like it at first, wait until 3:30. It gets epic.
