Games that Rock #7 Posted on: December 6, 2008, at 11:55:22am Warning: The following contains no foul language, sexual jokes, or any "bad stuff" at all. So Wade and Mom REJOICE! Also, it contains spoilers, so BEWARE! About 3 years ago I got a game for Christmas, and it was odd to say the least. This game was the prequel to one of the first games to come out on the PS2, and I had no idea what I was in for...... Shadow of the Colossus has you playing the young role of Wander, a boy who's girlfriend has lost her soul. Dormin, a disembodied voice, will try to give her her soul back but only if Wander killes 16 ancient beasts that each contain a part of Dormin. Near the end of the game, however, Dormin betrays Wander and takes over his body, therefore Wander grows two horns, which sets up the curse in Ico. Now I have to admit I used Wikipedia right now to find all this out, but COME ON! The plot is so hard to follow in the game while listening to the beautiful soundtrack and how the game works!!! First of all, it's a free-roam game, but the simplicity of gameplay is amazing. Start at temple in desert, hold up sword while riding horse to find next boss, kill boss, repeat. It's how you kill the bosses that make the game. Even though the ONLY bad-guys in the whole game our the bosses, how amazing they are is spectacular! Each one is about the size of the Empire State Building. Each one is it's own puzzle, and finding out how the enviornment is suppossed to be used to kill them is the best challenge of the game. Ok, so even though the game is a little short, replay is amazing. Killing a boss again after a certain amount of time allows for an achievement of sorts. And every two bosses you get an upgrade to an item. There is a hard mode, and believe me it's a pain. And most of all, the idea of having a hidden area at the top of the temple that is only reachable if you've beaten the game 4 times might sound stupid, but do it, trust me. The place is so gorgeous you would wish it were real. All in all, Shadow of the Colossus is a decent game, and I highly recommend it, and sorry for spoiling the plot, but it's a requirment, because the plot is the only ok thing about the game. 9 out of 10 *EDIT* Ok, there is one main problem with the game, and that's the horse, Agro. He's your transporter through the game, and sometimes you have to leave him behind and climb stuff. Now he's not suppossed to be able to get there, but when you reach the top and whiste....he appears behind you!!! Can this horse teleport?! |
