They Will Haunt You

They hide in your mind.
They haunt your head.
They aren't in the closet
or under the bed.

They aren't friendly thoughts.
They worsen your sleep.
They tell you bad stories
and they cut you quite deep.

They might be a memory.
They might be a soul.
They might not be real
but are still out of control.

They may not have hands.
They may not have flesh.
They hurt you real bad
and won't let you rest.

They don't sing you lullabies.
They won't leave you at peace.
Nightmares will scare you
while you're awake or asleep.
